San Pablo to celebrate International Migrants Day

San Pablo will host a consciousness-raising celebration on Saturday of International Migrants
Day, established by the United Nations in 2000 as a global observance of the civil and human
rights of immigrants and migrants generally.
The event will be from noon to 3 p.m. at Maple Hall in the San Pablo Civic
Center, 13831 San Pablo Ave.
The concept behind San Pablo's event, subtitled "We are all Migrants," is to
recognize the contributions of migrants and immigrants, to celebrate
diversity and to hear stories about "how we all exercised liberty of
movement to eventually call San Pablo our home," according to a city news
release.
The keynote speaker will be Mahvash Hassan of the Institute for Local
Government. There will be food, information displays, books and articles and
references to online resources. Migrants will tell personal stories, and
translators will be on hand.
The event, which is free, is co-sponsored by the Black Alliance for Just
Immigration; Lao Family Community Development; Koshland Program of
The San Francisco Foundation; Priority Africa Network; and United Latino
Voice.
