magician at heart, Max Martire took to
the turntables years before anybody had a
clue what influence the Technics 1210’s would
come to have on the future of music and culture.
Already in 1982, years before most had discovered electronic music, at the age of 13, Max
was already Djing. Later in 1987 he was competing in the DMC Deejay Mixing Championship.
As a true pioneer he was at the forefront of
the electronic dance music scene as it broke
its first ground on the island of Ibiza. As the
confidant of club owner Pepe Rosello from
Space he was instrumental in shaping the musical direction of the island in its infancy.
Along with his Italian DJ partner Daniele Poli
and their counterparts: British DJ duo Alex P
and Brandon Block the four of them created
the phenomenon we refer to as the legendary
Space terrace. By converting this neglected
part of the discotheque into a sunny paradise
they wrote history that would forever change
the spirit of the island for all time to come.
For the years that followed he held residencies at Space and Amnesia as well as sound
tracking some of the greatest private parties
that the island has ever seen. He toured exten-

Ya en 1982, años antes de que la mayoría hubiera descubierto la música electrónica, a los
13 años, Max ya estaba pinchando música. Más
tarde, en 1987, estaba compitiendo en el DMC
Deejay Mixing Championship.
Como un verdadero pionero, estaba al frente
del panorama dance electrónico cuando hizo
su entrada en la isla de Ibiza. Como hombre
de confianza del dueño del club Space, Pepe
Rosello, eso fue decisivo a la hora de formar
su dirección musical en la isla durante su infancia. Junto con su compañero italiano DJ
Daniele Poli y sus colegas, el dúo británico Alex
P y Brandon Block, los cuatro crearon el fenómeno al que nos referimos como la mítica terraza de Space. Al convertir esta descuidada
parte de la discoteca en un soleado paraíso, hicieron historia, algo que cambió de por vida el

Im zarten Alter von 13 Jahren, 1982, lange
Zeit, bevor elektronische Musik ein Thema
war, betrieb Max Djing. Fünf Jahre später konkurrierte er bereits in der DMC Deejay Mixing
Meisterschaft.
Als wahrer Pionier stand er natürlich auch
an erster Stelle als elektronische Dance Music
die Küste von Ibiza erreichte. Als Vertrauter
des Club-Besitzer Pepe Rosello (Space) war er
maßgeblich an den ersten Electro-Events beteiligt. Zusammen mit seinem italienischen DJ
Freund Daniele Poli und dem britischen Duo
Alex P und Brandon Block bildeten sie die
„fantastischen Vier“, die als erste die Space
Terrasse bespielten. Mit der Idee, die Musik
raus aus den dunklen Räumen ans Sonnenlicht zu holen, schrieben sie auf Ibiza Geschichte und legten den Grundstein für die
Open Air Kultur.
In den folgenden Jahren war Max Resident
im Space und im Amnesia; bespielte die größten Privat-Partys der Insel. Er tourte wie ein

sively throughout Europe breaking the first
ground of house music and the new electronic
dance music culture to the masses of groove
hungry dancers throughout the world. His reputation for flawless mixing and beat-matching precision earned him the nickname: The
surgeon.
What happened next is nothing short of a
Hollywood drama. He surrendered his career
at its height to return to Italy to take care of
his family in their need, and for years he
stood by them unto the end. That’s when he
suffered one of the most horrific ordeals a
man can go through, due to a misdiagnosis
the doctors told him to call the ones he loved
because he had only 45 minutes left to live. He
survived only barely and was doomed to a life
in hospitals according to the medical profession. However, never one to believe the hype,
he fought his way back like a champion and
one year later he rose again, completely recovered and with a singular mindset: let’s bring
back the music and the love upon which
house music was originally born – in a single
word: Disco.
It was then that Max teamed up with his old
time friend, the musical chameleon Lenny
Ibizarre, and together their commitment to

pasar, debido a un diagnóstico equivocado, los
doctores le dijeron que llamara a sus seres queridos ya que sólo le quedaban 45 minutos de
vida. A duras penas sobrevivió y fue condenado
a una vida en hospitales, de acuerdo a los profesionales médicos. Sin embargo, y casi sin
poder creerlo, lucho por volver como un campeón, y un año más tarde, resurgió de nuevo,
completamente recuperado, y con un pensamiento muy curioso: vamos a traer de vuelta la
música y el amor al lugar donde nació el house,
en una sola palabra: Disco.
Fue en ese momento cuando Max se unió
a su viejo amigo, el camaleón musical Lenny
Ibizarre, y juntos y con su compromiso con
la música, se embarcaron en una increíble

Präzision brachte ihm den Spitznamen “der
Chirurg“ ein.
Was dann passierte, gleicht einem Hollywood Drama. Auf dem Höhepunkt seiner Karriere beendet er seine Laufbahn und kehrt zu
seiner Familie nach Italien zurück, um ihr in
einem Notfall beizustehen. Jahre verbrachte er
im Kreise seiner Lieben und gerade, als er sich
wieder Zeit für die Musik nehmen wollte,
kommt es zu einer verheerenden ärztlichen
Fehl-Diagnose: er habe nur noch 45 Minuten
zu leben und solle sich bitte von seinen Freunden verabschieden. Aber Martire überlebt. Gefesselt an ein Krankenhausbett, mit wenig
Hoffnung, dieses jemals wieder verlassen zu
können. Doch für den Zauberer Max gelten andere Regeln: er kämpft sich ins Leben zurück.
Nur ein Jahr später war er völlig genesen und
mehr noch: er wusste nun genau, was er tun
wollte: zurück zur House Musik, zurück zum
Kern dieser und der Liebe aus der sie entstanden war – kurz: Disko!
Wie der Zufall es wollte, lief Max seinem
altem Kumpel, dem musikalischen Chamäleon, Lenny Ibizarre, über den Weg und gemeinsam starteten sie in ein neues Abenteuer,

that took off faster than a rocket ship. The

Within a few months the ARISTOFREEKS
were touring and producing with Giorgio
Moroder and Sister Sledge. This led them to
win the confidence of Nile Rodgers and Stevie
Wonder. Productions with Kathy Sledge such
as the remix of 'We are Family' and some
new productions followed, right now they are
busy in the studio working with the original
Singers of Chic, Norma Jean Wright, Luci
Martin and Alfa Anderson, and with Kathy
Sledge again. At the opening of the Hard Rock
Hotel they brought the Ladies to the stage
where Nile Rodgers welcomed them big time
and they performed 'Good Times' and 'We are
Family' life together, an unforgettable moment!
So the signs are clear for all to see: Max’ vision of groovy funky disco vibes will always
be in demand for all those dancers across the
globe who want to get down. His acute knowledge of hypnotic disco shamanism speaks to
an ancient groove that is forever embedded in

En unos meses los ARISTOFREEKS estaban de
gira y produciendo con Giorgio Moroder y
Sister Sledge. Esto les llevó a ganarse la confianza de Nile Rodgers y Stevie Wonder. Producciones con Kathy Sledge, como el remix de “We
are Family”, y algunas otras nuevas, se están
llevando a cabo en el estudio en este momento
con Singers of Chic, Norma Jean Wright, Luci
Martin y Alfa Anderson, y con Kathy Sledge de
nuevo.
En la apertura del Hard Rock Hotel trajeron a
las Ladies al escenario, donde Nile Rodgers les
dio una enorme bienvenida y cantaron “Good
Times” y “We are Family” juntos, ¡un momento
inolvidable!
Así que los signos quedan evidentes para
todos: la visión de Max acerca de los ritmos
funky y disco siempre serán objeto de demanda por todo el mundo que quiera darlo
todo.
Su agudo conocimiento del chamanismo hipnótico en el disco se refiere a un antiguo ritmo

Aristofreeks bereits auf Tour, produzierten mit

ihnen, das Vertrauen von Nile Rodgers und
Stevie Wonder zu gewinnen, die sich ebenfalls
in ihre Hände begaben. Es folgte Remixe wie
„We are family“ mit Kathy Sledge und auch einige brandneue Songs. Bis heute sind die beiden unentwegt im Studio, arbeiten derzeit mit
den Original Sängerinnen der Chics, Norma
Jean Wright, Luci Martin und Alfa Anderson,
zusammen. Auch mit Kathy wird bereits wieder an einem neuen Remix gearbeitet. Bei der
Eröffnung des Hard Rock Hotels brachten Max
und Lenny die Ladies gemeinsam mit Nile auf
die Bühne und gemeinsam performten sie
„Good Time“ und „We are family“ – ein unvergesslicher Moment!
Die Vision von Max Martire ist aufgegangen
wie ein Stern am Nachthimmel. Sein groovender Disco Sound ist begehrter denn je. Sein
technisches Knowhow auf der einen Seite und
sein magisches Herz mit so viel Gefühl auf der
anderen Seite machen ihn für die Dancefloors
unentbehrlich. Jeder ist bereit, Max zu folgen,
nur um zu tanzen, tanzen, tanzen… All night
