JAVIER SOLANA
Javier Solana is president of ESADE Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics (BarcelonaMadrid). He is also distinguished fellow in Foreign Policy at Brookings Institution, chairman of the
Aspen Institute España, honorary president of the Centre for Human Dialogue (Geneva), advisor
to the Institute of Modern International Relations, Tsinghua University, member of the board of
the International Crisis Group, the European Council on Foreign Relations, and Human Rights
Watch, as well as senior visiting professor at the London School of Economics, where he was
awarded an Honorary Degree in December 2010.
Until the end of 2009, Javier Solana was EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and
Security Policy, and Secretary-General of the Council of the EU. Previously, he was NATO
Secretary-General and held various ministerial portfolios, including Minister for Foreign Affairs, in
the Spanish Government.
Javier Solana es presidente del Centro de Economía y Geopolítica Global de ESADE (Barcelona–
Madrid). Es igualmente distinguished fellow de Brookings Institution (Washington, DC),
presidente de Aspen Institute España, presidente honorario del Centro para el Diálogo
Humanitario (Ginebra), asesor del Institute of Modern International Relations de la Universidad
de Tsinghua (Pekín), miembro de los patronatos del International Crisis Group, European Council
on Foreign Relations y de Human Rights Watch, así como profesor visitante senior de la London
School of Economics, donde fue investido Doctor Honoris Causa en diciembre de 2010.
Hasta finales de 2009, el Sr. Solana fue Alto Representante para la Política Exterior y de Seguridad
Común de la Unión Europea y secretario general del Consejo de la Unión Europea. Anteriormente,
el Sr. Solana desempeñó el cargo de secretario general de la OTAN y ostentó varios cargos
ministeriales en el Gobierno español, incluido el de ministro de Asuntos Exteriores.
