Call for participation #DREAMERS en Movimiento 2016 Forum Los Ángeles, CA – November 16-18 Objectives Promote dialogue and connect young DREAMERS and IME Becas scholarship recipients with their peers in the United States with the purpose of building a working network both with a regional and national scope. Connect young people of Mexican origin in the United States with relevant actors involved in social, academic and entrepreneurial fields, as well as with the civil society, in order to contribute to their professional and personal success. Strengthen bonds of trust between young people of Mexican origin in the United States with the Mexican and Americans authorities involved in their development and empowerment. Offer tools that will allow young people of Mexican origin in the United States to be successful in their initiatives and projects of social entrepreneurship. Promote a binational identity, an exchange of experiences and good practices in organizational matters, social work and influence in the development of their communities of origin and destination. Call for Participation The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME), the Directorate General for Protection of Mexicans Abroad, and the consular network in the United States call on young DREAMERS and IME Becas scholarship recipients of Mexican origin who are residents in the United States to apply for a scholarship to participate in the #DREAMERS en Movimiento 2016 Forum, which will be held in Los Angeles, California on November 16-18, 2016 (participants will return to their cities of origin on the 16rd). Throughout this three-day forum, 300 young DREAMERS and IME Becas scholarship recipients will have access to workshops, conferences, and many interactive activities that will allow them to connect with other young people in the United States in order to exchange experiences, good practices and advance their development and community action agendas. Participation Requirements To apply for the scholarship you must met the following requirements: • Have between 18-30 years of age by August 15, 2016; • Have lived continuously in the United States since June 15, 2007; • Fill out the application available on the IME website ( http://ime.gob.mx/documentos/formulario_drimersEn.pdf ); • Submit the aforementioned application with the documents listed below to the closest consulate or email them to ([email protected] ): o Copy of Curriculum Vitae; o Proof of address; o Proof of residence in the United States since June 15, 2007; o Documented, graphic, or audiovisual evidence of your participation in activities dedicated to the wellbeing and development of your community; o A 30 second video (max) where you inform us in an innovative way the reasons why you want to be a part of the #DREAMERS en Movimiento 2016 Forum; o A letter where, in the case that you are selected, you express your commitment to actively participate in the activities and dynamics of the #DREAMERS en Movimiento 2016 Forum. Selection Criteria The selection of participants will follow these criteria: • Consideration will only be given to those who have completed the PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS mentioned previously in this call for participation; • Preference will be given to those who fulfill the eligibility requirements for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program; • Priority will be given to people that have been beneficiaries of the IME Scholarship Program during any of its cycles; • Preference will be given to youth living in the territorial jurisdiction of the General Consulate of Mexico in Los Angeles; in the understanding that these participants won’t represent more than one third of the available resources. • Prior participation in organizations, collectives, networks and/or activities oriented at benefitting the community will be taken into consideration; • Consideration will be taken to the originality of the videos submitted by the applicants to show the reasons why they should be selected in the #DREAMERS en Movimiento 2016 Forum; Selection Process and Publication of Results Applications must be submitted before 11:59pm (Pacific Standard Time) on Friday October 21, 2016. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, will review applications according to the SELECTION CRITERIA detailed above. Decisions on the adjudication of scholarships will be made under the principles of plurality, inclusion and respect to social and cultural diversity of the participants. The name of the winners and participants in the #DREAMERS en Movimiento 2016 Forum will be published in the Institute for Mexicans Abroad’s website (www.ime.gob.mx) on October 28, 2016. Coverage of the Scholarship Scholarships will include: • Transportation costs to Los Angeles, California; • Ground transportation during stay in Los Angeles; • Lodging during the event; • Materials that will be used during the forum; • Access/participation in extracurricular activities and trips hosted by the #DREAMERS en Movimiento 2016 Forum; • Food during your stay; General Considerations The request for support in the framework of this invitation implies the acceptance of its terms. In this sense, the interpretation of the terms corresponds to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), through the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME) and the Directorate General for Protection of Mexicans Abroad (DGPME); which will be authorized to resolve any situation not foreseen in this call for participation. People that register on more than one occasion will automatically be disqualified. The SRE, IME, and DGPME reserve the right to establish additional requirements or documents as part of the selection process. *If you are interested in participating but do not meet one of the requirements, please send us your application along with your supporting documents- The Selection Committee will consider inviting you to participate as a special guest.
