An airslide product conveys material by gravity, fluidifying it thanks to the fabric base
through which air is passed. The combination of low air pressure, gravity and a slope
of +/-10% in the channels makes it possible to carry dry granular materials in a
completely closed system, avoiding emissions of dust particles.
Thus, fluidification or airslide fabrics and
discs are used to convey powdery substances
carried in channels by means of a process
involving pushing compressed air into the
channel, generally at 1.5 bar. When this air
flow passes through the porous, permeable
fabric it carries the powdery substance with
it, fluidifying it and allowing it to slide
through the channel, the slope of which
directs
the
substance
to
its
desired
destination. Fluidification makes it possible to
separate out the particles by surrounding
them with air bubbles and keeping them
apart. Finally, the material falls by gravity.
The fluidification fabric used in the past was
8mm thick cotton. Nowadays, though, it has
generally been replaced by polyester. The
main benefits of this change are a reduction
in the necessary thickness to 5mm and a
longer effective life in terms of air passing
through, as well as not rotting and absorbing
less humidity from the air or from the
substance being carried.
However, in cases where the temperature
exceeds 140ºC (as with the conveyance of
ash from burning coal in power stations),
