Bread of Life
This Sunday we finish the Bread of Life series from the
Gospel of St. John. For the past several weeks those who
have been preaching have been spending considerable time
in their homilies elaborating on the Blessed Sacrament—
the Body and Blood of Christ. I want to encourage you all
to continue to deepen your understanding of our Church’s
theology of holy Communion and its importance in our
lives as well as how we are called, by virtue of receiving
the Body and Blood of Christ, to be in the world.
I wish to sincerely invite you to arrive in time for the
beginning of Mass and to stay until the end of the last song.
Why wouldn’t you want to receive from the Lord our God
all of the grace and blessings He has for you. Why would
you want to miss even a single bit? And then bring that out
with you as you leave the church into the parking lot and
out into your world.
Parish Surveys
I would like to express my gratitude to you, again, for
taking time to fill out the parish surveys if you were here
and you filled one out last weekend. If you were not here
AND you have not filled out a parish survey, I REALLY
would like for you to take a few minutes and complete it.
This is about OUR common future and what our physical
campus as well as the pastoral vision for Christ the Good
Shepherd will be for the next 10-20 years. If you have a
family with young children, PLEASE fill out the survey.
Everyone, EVERYONE is invited to participate. You can
get copies from our parish web site or from the receptionist.
Pastoral Council
THIS TUESDAY, August 25 at 7 p.m. we will be
offering an information night about what a Pastoral Council
is. (Some may know this as a Parish Council). I am hoping
for a good showing of people from a cross section of our
parish. I would like for the entire parish to be represented.
All of the various ethnicities, ages, needs, etc.
St. Augustine and St. Monica
On Friday, August 28 we celebrate the feast of St.
Augustine. He is one of the great preachers and teachers of
our faith and died on 28 August 430. His book called
Confessions is a wonderful book even today. It chronicles
his life story, in particular his conversion from a pretty
worldly young man to hearing the voice of God. The
specific verse of the Bible that called out to him is: “...let us
conduct ourselves properly as in the day… put on the Lord
Jesus Christ, and make no provisions for the desires of the
flesh” (Romans 13:13-14). His mother, St. Monica’s feast
day is the previous day, Thursday, August 27. She is a
wonderful example of persevering in prayer. She was
so very concerned for her son Augustine, and prayed
for him constantly without tiring. She never gave up.
She is a great friend to mothers and parents whose
children have wandered a bit from the Christian path.

Pan de vida
Este domingo terminamos la serie del Pan de Vida desde el
Evangelio de San Juan. Durante las últimas semanas quienes
han estado predicando, han tomado un tiempo considerable en
elaborar sus homilías sobre el Santísimo Sacramento — el
cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo. Quiero animar a todos ustedes a
seguir profundizando su entendimiento de la teología de nuestra
iglesia de la Sagrada Comunión y su importancia en nuestras
vidas, así como somos llamados, en virtud de recibir el cuerpo y
sangre de Cristo para llevarlo al mundo.
Deseo sinceramente invitarle a llegar a tiempo para el comienzo
de la Misa y quedarse hasta el final de la última canción. ¿Por
qué no quiere recibir de parte del Señor nuestro Dios la gracia y
las bendiciones que él tiene para usted? ¿Por qué querría
perdérselo? Y llevarlo con usted al salir de la Iglesia hacia el
estacionamiento y al mundo.

Consejo Pastoral
Este martes 25 de agosto a las 7pm estaremos ofreciendo
una noche de información acerca de lo que es un Concilio
Pastoral. (Algunos saben que es un Consejo parroquial).Tengo la
esperanza de una buena participación de personas de toda
nuestra parroquia. Me gustaría que toda la parroquia este bien
representada. De diversas etnias, edades, necesidades, etc.
San Agustín y Santa Mónica
El viernes 28 de agosto celebramos la fiesta de San Agustín.
Él es uno de los grandes predicadores y maestros de nuestra fe
murió el 28 de agosto en el año 430. Su libro titulado confesiones
es un libro maravilloso hasta el día de hoy. Narra la historia de su
vida, en particular su conversión de un hombre joven bastante
mundano para oír la voz de Dios. Un versículo en especifico de
la Biblia que sintió el llamado es: " comportémonos correctamente
durante el día… en el Señor Jesucristo, y no por los deseos de la
carne" (Romanos 13:13 ). Su madre, santa Mónica la fiesta es el
día anterior, el jueves, 27 de agosto. Ella es un ejemplo
maravilloso de perseverar en la oración. Ella estaba tan
preocupada por su hijo, San Agustín que rezaba por él
constantemente, sin cesar. Ella nunca se rindió. Ella es
una gran intercesora de los padres cuyos hijos han
cambiado un poco sus caminos cristianos.

RCIA: Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
Are you interested in the Catholic Faith? Are you an adult who
has never been baptized? Let’s talk about the Catholic faith and
the sacraments of the Church. The informal inquiry sessions for
adults are ongoing every Monday night 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in
the PAC Bride’s Room. These sessions are also for adults
baptized in another Christian denomination who are now
interested in the Catholic Faith. Please call for an appointment or

recibiste el bautizo o si fuiste bautizado en otra fe cristiana, por
favor llámame para platicar del proceso que necesitas para recibir
los sacramentos de la Iglesia Católica. Este proceso es también
para los adultos que fueron bautizados Católicos pero que nunca
recibieron la doctrina y que no han recibido los sacramentos de la

activities, designed to add excitement and enrichment,
include games, finger plays, songs, action verses,
crafts, and more.

thank him for his many years of service here and for his pastoral care to so many.

program serving families without homes in our community. IHN
is a partnership with 17 churches in this area and Northwest

Place.
The
theme
was
Good-bye to
Summer and
we spent the day playing games, exercising with bells, and the four
year old class taught us to hula. We ended the day with root-beer
floats. Those that assisted were: Taylor & Morgan Stephenson,
Sidney Molina, Rebecca Rodriguez, Erick Diaz, Eric Hernandez,
Rudy Barrera, Jenaro Jacobo, Sophia & Andrea Aranda and Cindy
Hernandez. A special thanks to Father Desy for serenading us with
a song. The Gathering Place meets the first Thursday of the month
and offers respite care to caregivers that are caring for loved ones
at home that are suffering with
memory loss. For more information call

Our baby bottle fund
raiser that started
Mother’s Day and
ended on Father’s
Day collected $11,277.62. We continued to receive
the bottles long after Father’s Day and some
parishioner’s brought their bottles back, emptied them, and took
them home to refill. A heartfelt thank you for your generosity to
support Shepherd’s Tent and Birthright who will benefit from this
collection, both of these programs help pregnant moms and those
in crisis during their pregnancy.
