DIAMOND JUBILEE:
WHAT A GREAT CELEBRATION

HRH Elizabeth II became Queen at the age of 25 in 1952, and during her six
decades on the throne she has witnessed a period in modern history which has seen
enormous social, political and technological change.
She is a brightly dressed and punctual paradox: the ruler who does not rule her
subjects but who serves them. She is widely seen and yet not known, familiar to all
but distant from everyone, she is at once the most public person possible and the
most private, a monarch who is serious, diligent, steady and reserved, but this last
weekend Her Majesty, who is Queen in 15 Commonwealth Realms in addition to
the United Kingdom, celebrated with the special extended bank holiday central
weekend and her face lighted up with genuine smiles for her people ... it meant the
world to them and they could not stop cheering their Queen.

If you like numbers, organisers estimate 1.2 million people lined the seven-mile
route for the pageant and 250,000 gathered to watch the Royal family appear on
the balcony of Buckingham Palace; some 10.3 million people tuned into BBC1's
coverage of the Thames while the Concert peaked at more than 17 million viewers;
12,000 people attended the concert.

Cultural, se realizó la ceremonia de
premiación del Cuento Breve 2012. Fue
una noche llena de alegría y gritos de
emoción de los finalistas y sus padres. El
evento contó con la animación de Yana,
quien con su carisma cautivó de principio
a fin la atención de niños, jóvenes y
adultos.

En los centros también celebramos el Jubilee de la Reina y Nancy Campos, jefa del BRITÁNICO SJL, nos brinda una
muestra de ello.
La Biblioteca Británica entregó los
premios a los ganadores del concurso, en
el que participaron 795 estudiantes, entre
niños y jóvenes, de los diferentes centros
de enseñanza del BRITÁNICO. Los
participantes demostraron originalidad e
imaginación en sus cuentos donde los
temas resaltantes fueron: los deportes, los
extraterrestres, las aventuras y la familia.
Se seleccionaron 21 finalistas, quienes
recibieron
algunos
presentes.

ganadores fueron:
Remarkable events held during the course of the four central days were the Special
Edition Epsom Derby (the Queen’s passion for horses is famous), the Big Jubilee
Lunch with street parties which brought communities together despite the rainy
weather, and the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant which was the last event Prince
Philip attended. These were followed on Monday by the BBC concert held at
Buckingham Palace, a network of beacons lit throughout the UK and the Commonwealth with amazing fireworks, the Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral
with the Diamond Choir consisting of children from across Britain, with the subsequent formal carriage Procession and the famous balcony appearance of the Senior
Royals and RAF Flypast with the grand finale: huge crowds singing in the rain for
Her Majesty ... an outstanding moment.

The Queen celebrates 60 years as Monarch in 2012! The Diamond Jubilee of
Queen Elizabeth II is a multinational celebration throughout 2012 marking the
60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne. A lot of
events were coordinated by Buckingham Palace for the Diamond Jubilee central
weekend (2nd–5th June 2012) in England. This important event was also
celebrated at BRITÁNICO San Juan de Lurigancho, with little British flags outside
the classrooms, boards with photographs of Queen Elizabeth and her
coronation, and questionnaires solved by students showing how much they
knew about the queen and this event.

When I was informed that i had been selected to attend the IATEFL in
Glasgow 2012 and a 2 week- course in London, I was completely amazed
and could not believe my great luck. Some weeks later the big day had
arrived, and after a 14-hour flight and 5 more hours enjoying the spectacular
view by train, there I was in Scotland eager to join this conference.
I had high expectations about this, and they were truly fulfilled as I not only
found all the talks thought-provoking and inspiring, but I also had the chance
to meet colleagues from all over the world and share knowledge, culture and
of course remarkable teaching experiences. After an enriching week in
Scotland, it was time to get back to London.

Como parte del programa de capacitación a nuestro staff, Dora Cerdán, profesora del BRITÁNICO Miraflores viajó al Reino
Unido y nos cuenta su experiencia.
Everybody always says that London is a great city but I would go beyond that,
I would say that it is a marvellous city. The exceptionally well-organized tube, the wide variety of cultures, the very kind and
polite English people, the gorgeous sites to visit and even the weather, which was nice while I was there, every single thing
made me fall in love with London.
Though this is a short article, I cannot fail to mention Cambridge - with its magnificent colleges such as Trinity, the city of Bath
- with its buildings of Bath stone and unquestionably beautiful, and Stonehenge with its enigmatic origin. I had a wonderful
time visiting these fantastic places among others in my spare time during my stay in London.
I would like to thank the BRITÁNICO for giving me this great opportunity which has allowed me to expand my professional
and cultural horizons, which I believe have enriched me not only as a global teacher, but also as person. THANK YOU,
BRITÁNICO.

BRITÁNICO MONTERRICO
El miércoles 30 de mayo, en las instalaciones de la sede central, se llevó a cabo la ceremonia de premiación de la Reciclatón,
que reunió a nuestros once centros de enseñanza. El ganador fue el BRITÁNICO Monterrico y el segundo y tercer lugar lo
obtuvieron el BRITÁNICO Miraflores y San Miguel, respectivamente.
Los ganadores exhiben un certificado gigante en su centro.
Todo el papel reciclado servirá para brindar becas educativas a los niños de Fundades. Felicitamos a todos los centros por su
valiosa participación.

MALDITA
What’s up?, gente del BRITÁNICO. Esta vez la Zona Maldita
les juega un top 3 de ciudades inglesas, sin incluir la capital
Londres, de donde han salido músicos y grupos recontra
influyentes en la historia del rock y pop en inglés.
Manchester: Situada al noroeste de Inglaterra, esta ciudad
ha visto nacer a bandas que moldearon todo un estilo y
tendencia en el rock anglosajón como The Smiths, en el
alternativo y The Happy Mondays y los Stone Roses, como
cabezas visibles del movimiento Madchester. Por si fuera
poco, Oasis, la banda más importante del britpop, es
originaria de Manchester.
Birmingham: La ciudad en donde se forjó uno de los
géneros más extremos del rock, el heavy metal gracias a
Black Sabbath y Judas Priest, también ha producido bandas
con un norte musical más suave como Duran Duran en el
new romantic, el reggae de UB40, y el rock progresivo
popeado de Electric Light Orchestra.
Liverpool: Conocida por ser la cuna de la banda más popular
de todos los tiempos The Beatles, desde Merseyside han
salido otras notables agrupaciones como los pilares del new
wave Echo & The Bunnymen, A Flock of Seagulls, Dead or
Alive y Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Otros grupos conocidos
son The Farm de principios de los 90 y The Zutons cuyo tema
“Valerie” ganó popularidad gracias a la versión hecha por
Mark Ronson y Amy Winehouse.

desarrolle estrategias de comunicación efectivas mediante el uso de correos
electrónicos.

On May 21st, our students in SJL attended the
presentation of the video Radical Manga in which
they learnt about Alan Moore and his genius for
creating some of the most famous masterpieces in
the world of comics and graphic novels. Among his
works we can name the very well-known
Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The Legion of
Extraordinary Gentlemen and Captain Britain.

MOTHER'S DAY ACTIVITIES IN
SAN ISIDRO

Mother is one of the sweetest words and one of the first we
learn, the one we claim when we are in danger. Nobody
knows us as she does, nobody takes care of us as she does.
Nobody is more beautiful or good than they are. These are
not my words; they are what my kids 12 students wrote on
the bookmarks they prepared for their mothers. Katia Medel
who teaches kids 7 was amazed with the lovely necklaces
her students made; the results were beyond her own
expectations. However, kids did much more because all the
groups presented awesome board displays helped by their
teachers (Karem Quispe, Silvana Montesinos, Claudia
Romero, Maria Sevilla, Doris Torres and Ursula Vasquez). The
love and dedication
they showed when
drawing and writing
something about their mothers wasn’t surprising. Do not
think that only kids gave honour to their mothers; adults did
so too: students in the Superintensive 5 (1pm) class
prepared a board with postcards written to their mothers.
Mother’s day is a great festivity. However, I think it shouldn’t
be just one day but 365 days a year that we celebrate the
most special person in our lives. So, happy Mother’s day,
today and always.

However, I can’t deny that

Now that I have it, I want to
thank all the teachers I have

El 12 de mayo recordamos, con las mamás que esperaban a sus hijos salir de clases, que el

A Ricardo Felipe Tello del Álamo, alumno nuevo del K01 de las 8:00 a.m., lo fueron a recoger
su mamá y hermanita. Al momento de realizar el sorteo le pedimos a la niña que la acompañaba que saque los números
ganadores, pasamos un momento muy agradable cuando por una feliz coincidencia ella sacó el número de su mami.

unanimous “Yeah!”
I was so delighted to see them working so excitedly: collecting information,
making posters and downloading music.
Not only did they learn more about styles of music (pop, rock, etc.) but they also had effective oral production. As a teacher,
what more could I ask?

MY IDEAL SCHOOL DAY

My Juniors 2 group had as a project to prepare their ideal
school day timetable.
It was inspiring and motivating to witness their ability to use
their second language and express their preferences on
subjects at school, where and when they would like to have
them in school and the teaching materials (textbooks,
computer programmes, DVD/Videos) they would like their
teachers to use during the different classes.
They were thrilled, designing their timetables with glitter and
colourful paper as they listened to their favourite British
singers/groups.
What they thought was going to be a difficult challenge
turned out to be a rewarding outcome. I was more than
happy with the result and I could tell they were really proud
to achieve such goal and be in Juniors 2!

“The BRITÁNICO
gives you power”.
Now that I am
about to finish
this phase, I have
started thinking
about the six
cycles that I have
been
through
here; although at the beginning I did not feel confident
about my skills, over the months I really got into this and I
also enjoyed it.
The way teachers teach you at the BRITÁNICO helps you to
learn, understand and enjoy the language unlike anywhere
else, and makes you feel confident in the classrooms and,
even more importantly, outside them. I have felt motivated at
all times due to the challenge of the course.
The six cycles with the help of my classmates and my teacher
Sandra Carmen, bore out the meaning of the famous slogan
the BRITÁNICO has, and as my teacher said during the last
presentation we had at our International festivals: “I’m
proud of you, you really surprised me!” I must say that I feel
elated at what I’ve done and achieved here and I’m also
proud of my classmates. So take my advice, enjoy your
studies and make the most of your advanced phase; it’s really
worth it!

EXPERIENCIA.

Ganar la beca a Londres es
una de las mejores cosas
que me ha pasado y desde
el momento en que recibí el
premio, empecé a planear
cada día de este viaje.
Averigüé
sobre
las
atracciones de la ciudad, las
costumbres de la gente, la
diversidad
cultural,
la
historia, entre otros temas.
Pero una vez que estuve allí,
olvidé todo, dejé los apuntes
y descubrí que no hay mejor
manera de disfrutar Londres
si no es dejándose llevar.
Esta es una ciudad que goza
de ser cosmopolita y
moderna, pero aún así no
pierde la esencia de su
historia y tradición. Cada día
se puede descubrir algo
distinto, es otro mundo en
realidad, y aunque gasté
más de mi presupuesto
planeado para el viaje, no
me arrepiento, fue increíble.
Conocí personas de otros
países, con otras culturas y
con diferentes historias.
Aprendí nuevo vocabulario,
que sí pude aplicar en una
situación real, al igual que
muchas de las cosas que ya
sabía, y eso es invaluable.
Agradezco muchísimo al
BRITÁNICO, por dar esta
gran oportunidad a los
estudiantes, pues además
de
ser
una
grata
recompensa,
es
un
extraordinario
incentivo
para esforzarnos y darnos
cuenta de todo lo que
podemos llegar a hacer.

“Todo esfuerzo tiene su
recompensa”. Acaso, ¿es
esa una de las frases más
trilladas, pero en la que
menos se suele confiar? Sin
embargo, esta vez, gracias
al BRITÁNICO, que premió
mi esfuerzo, pude conocer
la sin igual ciudad de
Londres.
La experiencia fue espléndida,
el Reino Unido se mostró
ante mí como realmente un
mundo distinto. Y en vez de
sentir temor, me faltarían
palabras para describir la
emoción que sentí. Es cierto
que sus calles son álgidas,
pero sus habitantes son
todo lo contrario, de lo más
atentos y educados que se
pueda imaginar. Es más,
puesto que Londres es una
ciudad cosmopolita, era de
lo más común encontrarme
con personas de diversas
culturas y todas eran tan
atentas como los mismos
londinenses.

CONTEMPORÁNEAS 2012
OPERACIÓN VIVA SCHOOL
9ª. GENERACIÓN
El 29 de mayo en el auditorio del BRITÁNICO San Borja se
realizó la 9ª. Generación del concurso de canto Operación
Viva School, organizado por Viva FM.
La gran ganadora de la noche fue Valda Rodrigues, del
colegio Santa Ángela. Mientras que el segundo y tercer lugar
lo ocuparon Milagritos Gamarra y Nicole Terry,
respectivamente. El BRITÁNICO les brindó excelentes
premios.
El jurado estuvo conformado por el talentoso cantante
Jhovan Tomasevich, la actriz María Grazia Gamarra y el
Gerente de Nuevos Proyectos de Universal Music Alejandro
Vargas, quienes no la tuvieron muy fácil, por el gran talento
de las participantes.

DIRIGE AL BALLET DE SAN MARCOS. Danza contemporánea
Two International House courses were very successfully held at our SAN
BORJA CENTRE from 29 May to 1 June. Two expert tutors from International
House London engaged BRITÁNICO teachers and staff in interactive,
reflective tasks which contributed to their professional development by
enhancing their language and cultural awareness together with their
teaching skills.
The courses are part of an ongoing teacher development project which the
BRITÁNICO has been running since 2006 for the benefit of BRITÁNICO
teachers and, needless to say, BRITÁNICO students.

temas metodológicos de la mano de tres reconocidos autores y presentadores internacionales que nos visitaron.

audiencia.
