Kids: Learn how to stay safe and deal with strangers.
Only accept gifts or other items from adults if your parent or someone you know tells you it is OK.
If a stranger tells you that your mom or dad told them to pick you up, ask the person to tell you
the secret code word that you and your parents discussed. If this person does not know the secret
code word, do not go with them and get away from them as fast as you can. Never tell anyone else
the secret code word. The code word should be something only you and your parents know.
If you are home alone, never answer the phone or door.
Call 911 in case of emergency and be able to give the operator your full name, address, and
phone number.
When you want to leave home, make sure you ask permission from a parent or responsible
family member and then tell them where you are going. Make sure to tell them if you leave that
place and go somewhere else even if you are with another friend.
If you are on the computer and surfing the Internet, remember to never give out your personal
information such as your name, telephone number, or address. Tell your parent or another adult
immediately if someone on the Internet wants to meet you or says or does anything that makes
you uncomfortable or scared.
If you lose track of your parents when you are out with them, go to the customer service desk in
front of the store, a cashier, or an office and ask an adult for help to find your parents.
If someone tries to follow you, touch you, invites you, or forces you to go with them, run away and
scream as loud as you can. Don’t worry about making too much noise. This is good and people
are likely to hear you and help you.

del código secreto. La palabra secreta debe ser conocida sólo por tí y tus padres.
Si estás solo en tu casa nunca respondas el teléfono ni le abras la puerta a nadie.
Llama al 911 en caso de emergencia y encuéntrate preparado para darle al operador su nombre
completo, dirección y número telefónico.
Cuando tengas que irte de la casa asegúrate de pedirle permiso a uno de tus padres o a un
miembro responsable de la familia y diles a dónde te vas a dirigir. Asegúrate de avisarles si
debes irte de dicho lugar para dirigirte a otro, aún si te encuentras con otro amigo.
Si estás usando la computadora y navegando por Internet, recuerda que nunca debes dar tu
información personal, tal como tu nombre, dirección o número telefónico. Dile inmediatamente
a tus padres o a otro adulto si alguien de Internet quiere conocerte personalmente o hace algo
que te incomoda o asusta.
Si pierdes la pista de tus padres cuando te encuentras afuera con ellos dirígete a la oficina de atención
