Sus líneas de investigación analizan cómo los profesionales sanitarios y sociales tienen sentido de las continuidades y los cambios asociados con la reforma en salud. El Dr. Millar ha estado involucrado en una variedad de proyectos de investigación que incluyen estudios comparativos de casos de reforma del sistema de salud, la promoción de la empresa social en la salud y la asistencia social y el estudio de la gobernabilidad junta del hospital de la seguridad del paciente. Es el Director de Enseñanza y Aprendizaje en el Health Services Management Centre (HSMC) de la Universidad de Birmingham. Él es también un coordinador del módulo de Sanidad y Política Salud, Mejoramiento de la Calidad y la Innovación, y técnicas de estudio. En particular, se presenta una serie de perspectivas que se centran en formas de organización de la asistencia sanitaria en términos de: a) ¿Cómo entender los entornos sanitarios en términos de los actores e instituciones involucradas? b) evaluar diferentes maneras de mejorar los servicios de salud para el personal, los pacientes y el público. IDIOMA DEL CURSO: INGLES LECTURAS EN INGLES UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL AUTONÓMA DE MÉXICO Facultad de Medicina SUMMER SCHOOL 2016 CONTENIDO Day 1: What is policy? • The purpose of these sessions will be to introduce students to the key ideas and debates concerning the nature of healthcare policy and politics. It will introduce various definitions and ways of understanding health policy as well as start to map how these will be covered throughout the course. • The purpose of these sessions will be to start to understand how policy ‘problems’ come about. It will introduce various perspectives about how problems become policies detailing the various social, political and ideological factors influencing the process. • The session will also explore the extent to which policies transfer across different countries, looking at factors driving the spread and non-spread of policy ideas. • The purpose of this session will be to focus on particular actors engaged in the policy process who have the ability to shape decisions and outcomes. UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL AUTONÓMA DE MÉXICO Facultad de Medicina SUMMER SCHOOL 2016 CONTENIDO Day 2: Policy into practice: Implementation & Evaluation • The purpose of this session will be to examine the relationship between evidence and policy, debating the extent to which evidence informs policy decisions. • The purpose of the session will be to examine perspectives put forward to understand how policies are put into practice. It will present different ways of understanding implementation. It will also introduce students to different ways in which we can carry out policy evaluation. Day 3: Understanding Quality • The purpose of these sessions will be to introduce students to the key ideas and debates concerning quality in healthcare. It will introduce various definitions and ways of understanding quality as well as start to map how these will be covered throughout the course. • These sessions will be pay particular attention to the tools and techniques that have put forward to improve quality. It introduces different definitions, tools and techniques for ensuring safe care. • The sessions will also examine the strengths and limitations of the current approaches to improving quality and safety. Day 5: Understanding innovation • The purpose of this session will be to examine perspectives put forward to understand the innovation adoption and diffusion process. • It will examine perspectives put forward for increasing the success of quality and innovation. These sessions will explore the role of ‘context’ in further detail with the aim to further understand how a range of factors can support/hinder the chances of success.
