Besos y abrazos, Ps. Elsita Tejada The Gift of Good Communication Today I would like to share with you a gift that won’t cost you money, it will only cost you some effort as the wife that you are and this gift is called: The Gift of Good Communication. In other words, “To speak and listen well.” I have realized that many marriages suffer because there is a lack of understanding in the area of communication. True communication is reached when two things are taken into account: Knowing how to speak and knowing how to listen. 1. We must know when to “speak” and when to “listen”: A very talkative woman once said, “I don’t have problems to communicate,” when in reality what she should have said is, “I don’t have problems to talk.” She would be the only one speaking and she would rarely let her husband speak or give his opinion. Because she didn’t know how to listen she lost all the great input that her husband wanted to give. We must surrender everything that we are to God, including our “tongues. 2. We must be careful with our words: When our conversation is not full of love and we make negative comments or criticize others, we can influence our husbands negatively about their opinion toward someone. God clearly says, “…do not slander one another” (James 4: 11). We cannot bless God with the same mount that we are judging our neighbor (James 3:9-10) 3. We need to speak directly with God and wait for His divine answer: There are topics that it seems like every time we try to touch them everything becomes a disaster. That’s why it is better to leave them in the hands of God and to wait in Him so that God will prepare the right circumstances to touch the topic in the right time. 4. We must respect the order that God has established for the family: If there is a right relationship of authority and recognition toward our spouse, there will definitely be great communication. If we don’t respect that authority, then the opposite will happen, and he will try not to be near you. The bible says that we must imitate Jesus in His obedience and humble attitude toward the Father (Phil. 2:5-8). As we walk in humbleness and serve our husbands in love we will be blessed. Concluding this ingredient in your marriage, let us not forget to add 1 Corinthians 13 to this gift. If we apply this chapter then the communication in our marriages will be filled with beauty. LOVE …patient, is kind, does not envy, does not boast, is not proud, is not rude, is not self seeking, is not easily angered, keeps no record of wrongs, does not delight in evil, rejoices with the truth, always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres, never fails. May the Lord fill us with his grace to give this beautiful gift on the day of love! Hugs and kisses, Ps. Elsita Tejada
