From the Pastor’s Laptop
"Quiet! Come out of him!"
Father Mark Wagner
"On the Sabbath Jesus entered
the synagogue." (Mark1:21). These
words from today's Gospel show
that Jesus in His home town of
Capernaum had the habit of
entering the holy place at the holy
time. On the Lord's day he
entered the Lord's house; even Jesus
needed that. There he taught with
authority and people were amazed. An
unclean spirit shrieked and Jesus
commanded: "Quiet! Come out of
him!" and "the unclean spirit convulsed
the man and with a loud cry came out of
him!"
Our parish church should also be a
house of prayer and a place of quiet
worship. It should be an orderly place
where people can come to get away from
evil, indecency and chaos.
Unfortunately, unclean spirits find
Ash Wednesday

February 18
their way into the church and
tempt us. Even in this holy place we
are tempted because of immodest
dress, impure glances and bad
intentions. So once in a while, the
priests have to remind everyone of
our rules of order and to give the
command: "Quiet!" We take this
opportunity to remind everyone to be
respectful of the others in church who
come here for quiet prayer.
Please do not use technology which
emits annoying sounds and distracting
lights. Today at Mass we will distribute a
flier with reminders about how to show
respect in our holy place during our holy
times. We all need that. Let's make our
Father's house a house of prayer.

service to the poor
and in respectful
relations
Dear Brothers and Sisters: My
recent Apostolic Journey to Sri Lanka
and the Philippines was a joy-filled
encounter with their Catholic
communities. In Sri Lanka I canonized
Saint Joseph Vaz, a great missionary
whose example of charity continues to
inspire the faithful in their service to
the poor and in respectful relations
with the followers of other religions.
Sri Lanka still suffers the effects of
a prolonged civil conflict. In my
meeting with religious leaders I asked
that we work together as agents of
healing, peace and reconciliation. My
visit to the Philippines was a sign of
solidarity with all those affected by
Typhoon Yolanda.
In Tacloban we celebrated our
hope in the mercy of God, who does
not disappoint. In Manila I asked
families to cherish and protect the
family in its fundamental role in society
and in God’s plan. At my meeting with
young people, I challenged them to
build a society of integrity and
compassion for the poor. At the
conclusion of my visit, I commended
the Filipino people to their patron and
protector, the Christ Child, and urged
them to persevere in their precious
witness to the Gospel on the great
continent of Asia.

JOSE GAMEZ
If we had to describe Jose Gamez
in one word it would be
“passionate.” Jose has such a
great passion for the youth in our
community. As a member of our
high school CORE Team, Jose
leads a small group of young
men and helps them dive deeper
into their faith while challenging
them to live the Catholic faith in
their everyday lives. He also plays
a large leadership role in our
activities during our high school
youth group on Sundays. Jose
has four siblings; two older sisters
and one younger brother and
sister. He and his family have
been members of our parish
community for ten years. He
began getting involved in the
parish in his junior year in high
school, when he started
attending youth group. He is
involved in other ministries in the
parish, including serving as an
alter server, on our peer ministry
team and is currently a
Eucharistic Minister. Jose served
as a NET missionary in 20122013. He is currently attending
MJC and plans to eventually
transfer to Benedictine College in
Kansas and major in psychology
or sociology. We are blessed to
have such a passionate and hard
working young man be a part of
our youth program, helping
teens grown in their faith. Thank
you for being such a great
example to all of us in your
selfless service for the Lord!!!

Diálogo interreligioso
en el servicio de la paz
Queridos hermanos y hermanas:
Hoy me gustaría hablarles de mi
reciente viaje apostólico a Sri Lanka y
Filipinas, donde he podido encontrarme
multirreligioso. En las diversas reuniones
con las autoridades civiles y los líderes
religiosos, he tenido ocasión de
Además, he querido expresar
mi cercanía a cuantos sufren a causa de
la devastación del tifón Yolanda. Invito a
rezar constantemente por todo el
continente asiático.

DEL LAPTOP DEL PÁRROCO, Padre Mark
“¡Cállate y sal de ese hombre!”
Padre Mark Wagner
“Cuando llegó el sábado, Jesús fue a
la sinagoga.” (Mark 1:21). Estas palabras
del Evangelio de hoy demuestran que
Jesús en la ciudad donde residía,
Cafarnaúm, tiene la costumbre de entrar
al lugar santa a la hora santa. En el día
del Señor, Él entraba la casa del
Señor. Hasta Jesús necesitaba eso. Allí Él
enseñaba con autoridad, y todos estaban
asombrados.
inmodestas, miradas impuras, e intenciones
malas.

yo soy capaz” . De su matrimonio
particularmente feliz, nacieron nueve
hijos, dos mujeres y siete varones. Ella los
consagro todos a la Virgen … Conchita
Camacho. Cuando supe la noticia, rece a
Dios que mi hijo pudiera reemplazar a
este sacerdote en el altar…
Desde el momento en que el pequeño
Manuel inicio a hablar, hemos rezado
nunca! Olvida las criaturas y sobre todo
olvídate a ti mismo! No puedo imaginarme
un consagrado que no sea un santo”. El 31
de Julio de 1922 en Barcelona a España
Manuel fue ordenado sacerdote.

Si tuviera que describir a José
Gamez con una palabra sería
apasionado. Como miembro de
nuestro equipo High School CORE,
menor. Él y su familia han sido parte
de la comunidad de San José
durante unos 10 años, pero en
realidad Jose no empezó a
involucrarse en los ministerios
parroquiales hasta su tercer año en
la escuela secundaria cuando
empezó a asistir al grupo de
jóvenes. También es un monaguillo,
ayuda con nuestro equipo de
ministerio entre jóvenes donde es
participe y líder, y actualmente es
ministro de la Eucaristía. José
también ha servido como misionero
con el Ministerio de NET del 20122013. Actualmente está asistiendo a
la MJC y planea transferir sus
estudios a el Colegio Benedictine en
Kansas para especializarse en
psicología o sociología. Somos muy
afortunados de tener un joven tan
apasionado y trabajador formando
parte de nuestro programa de
jóvenes y ayudando a nuestros
jóvenes crecer en su fe. Gracias por
ser un gran ejemplo para todos
nosotros en el servicio
desinteresado para el Señor!!!
