screen to indicate to the bus Operator your card is valid.
Remember, you must tap your card each time you board
the bus; you may not simply show it to the bus Operator.
Transferring with TAP:
If your trip requires you to transfer, please ask the bus
Operator for a transfer and then deposit 50¢ in the fare
box and the bus Operator will hand you a paper ticket. If you are transferring to Metro Rail, please pay 50¢ when
boarding the bus and ask the Operator for a Rail Interagency transfer.

How to Ride the Bus
Long Beach Transit (LBT) takes you practically anywhere you want to go in Long Beach any day of the
week. Our friendly transit advisors are standing by to
help you plan your trip. We’ll be happy to give you
schedule and route information by calling (562) 5912301. Bus stops are located nearly every two blocks
for your convenience. Best of all, with a regular fare of
only $1.25 and even less for seniors and customers with
disabilities, there’s no better way to get around town.
Inside are complete maps and schedules for all routes,
plus a lot of helpful information to make riding the bus as
easy as possible. As you use the schedules, it is good
to remember that heavy traffic, customer loads, adverse
weather or other factors may prevent buses from running
on time. We recommend that you allow extra travel time.
Arrive at your stop early. Read the signs on the top of
the bus above the windshield to make sure you board
the right bus. The sign will give the final destination of
the bus and the major streets where the bus travels. Be
ready with your TAP card, pass or exact fare because
like the bus Operators, the fare boxes don’t make
change.
When you see your bus approach, please stand near
the bus stop sign. This lets your bus Operator know you
want to catch the bus. If you are unable to stand, please
signal the bus Operator to let him know that you want to
catch the bus.
Board the bus through the front door and tap your card,
slide your pass or pay your fare. If you need to transfer
to another transit agency to complete your one-way
trip, please buy your interagency transfer when you
pay your fare. Please check your pass/transfer before
being seated to make sure it is correct. After you pay
your fare, hold onto the handrails as you find a seat, as
the bus may begin to move before you sit down. If you
are disabled or a senior and need extra time boarding
the bus, be sure to let the bus Operator know. Please
remain seated and do not change seats while the bus is
in motion.
136
As you prepare to exit the bus, signal the bus
Operator about one block from your desired stop, that
you want off by pulling the cord, or pressing the yellow
strips along the side of the bus next to the window.
Please remain in your seat or hold the handrail until the
bus comes to a complete stop. After gathering your
belongings, please exit through the rear door. Please
be sure to hold the doors open while you’re exiting.
The doors will close automatically after you release
your hand. Carefully step off the bus onto the sidewalk.
If you loaded your bike, be sure to tell the bus Operator you’re getting your bike, and exit from the front
door.
You and our bike racks can help
reduce traffic and pollution. It’s true,
and loading your bike on the bus is so
easy! Take your bike to school to work,
or the beach at no additional cost. All
of our buses have three high-quality
racks with easy to use instructions.
It’s as easy as 1-2-3. Just follow the
instructions on the bike rack. 1. Pull down the bike rack
2. Place your front tire where it says, “Place your front tire here.”
3. Pull the support arm over the top of the tire.
Now, get on board! When exiting the
bus, alert the bus Operator that you’ll
be unloading your bike. Lift your bike
off the rack; if there’s no other bike on
the bus, please fold up the rack.
Please go to www.lbtransit.com and
click on Rider’s Guide for complete
information.

LACMTA, LADOT, Compton Renaissance Transit System, Torrance Transit, Norwalk Transit, and the Carson

• Interagency Transfers issued by the above transit carriers are accepted on LBT buses as long as the time, date
& direction of travel (one-way) are valid.
• Interagency Transfers are valid only where both agencies
connect.
• To transfer from Metro Rail, please secure a Metro to
Muni transfer while on the train platform.
• OCTA does not issue Interagency Transfers, but accepts

be accepted.
• If you are transferring to Metro Rail, please pay 50¢
when boarding the bus and ask the Operator for a Rail
Interagency transfer.
L.A. County EZ Pass is honored by most transit agencies
in Los Angeles County. The regional EZ Pass provides
riders who regularly use two or more transit systems with a
common “currency” that simplifies their commute. The EZ
Pass speeds boardings and eliminates the need for transfers and tickets. To board LBT buses with an EZ Pass,
you must have a current EZ Pass loaded on your TAP
card. Use the EZ Pass transit pass all month long on LBT,
Metro, LADOT, Torrance, Norwalk, Compton Renaissance,
Antelope Valley, Big Blue Bus, Palos Verdes Peninsula,
Pasadena Arts, Culver City, Foothill, Gardena, Montebello,
Santa Clarita and more. Please call TAP at (866) 827-8646
for complete program information.
