Helpful hints:
- Alguien and nadie both contain “ie”
- Algo and nada both only have four letters
- Gather your ‘goons’: algún, ningún, etc.
- Tams should be tight: tambíen and tampoco
- More than one negative word in a sentence is ok
Using the ‘goons’
Algún, ningún, alguna, ninguna, etc are adjectives. Adjectives must always match the nouns they modify in
both number and gender. Use algún and ningún when modifying a masculine singular noun.

Composing affirmative and negative sentences
Alguien, nadie, algo and nada are pronouns. That means they can be the subject of the verb, or the
predicate nominative and can go before or after the verb (not necessary, but if you’d like to know exactly
what it means, look up predicative nominal on Wikipedia).
Pronoun + verb
Alguien puede dormir.
Nadie puede dormir.
Algo está en la mesa.
Nada está en la mesa.
(No) + verb + (negative) pronoun
Tengo algo.
No tengo nada.
No está nada en la mesa.
Podemos llamar a alguien.
No podemos llamar a nadie.
