PASSED AND APPROVED this 8th day of July, 2014. The Cleveland City Council met in a special meeting on July 1, 2014 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 907 E. Houston, at 6:00 p.m. with Mayor Niki Coats presiding. PRESENT: Mayor Niki Coats, Councilmember Mike Penry, Councilmember Otis Cohn, Councilmember Carolyn McWaters, Councilmember James Franklin, Councilmember Delores Terry, Interim City Manager Kelly McDonald, Interim City Secretary Sue Daniel STAFF PRESENT: Becky Roseberry VISITORS: Lance Blackwell, Linda Clay, Cliff Dunn, Rodney Harrison, Michael Duren, Dusty Redmon Lance Blackwell gave the invocation and Interim City Manager Kelly McDonald led the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Niki Coats introduced the new Interim City Secretary, Sue Daniel. 1. Consider an ordinance of the City of Cleveland canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the General Runoff Election held on June 21, 2014. (Considerar una ordenanza de la Ciudad de Cleveland sondeando los rendimientos y la declaracion de los resultados de las elecciones generals celebrada el 21 de junio de 2014). Mayor Coats stated that on June 21, 2014 a runoff election was held for the position of Council Position 5 and the results were: COUNCIL POSITION 5 Delores Terry Bill McAdams 275 269 The Mayor then added that on June 26, 2014 a request for a recount was received. On July 1, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. the recount was conducted and the official results for this position were: COUNCIL POSITION 5 Delores Terry Bill McAdams 273 266 Councilmember James Franklin moved to approve the ordinance, with a second by Councilmember Otis Cohn. All council voted “AYE”. 2. Accept election results and issue Certificate of Election. (Aceptar los resultados electroales expedicion e certificados de la eleccion). Councilmember Terry moved to accept the election results and issue a Certificate of Election, with a second by Councilmember Cohn. All council voted “AYE”. 3. Administer the oath of office to Council Position 5. (Administrar el juramento toma de posesion a la posicion miembros del consejo 5). Interim City Manager McDonald administered the oath of office to the newly reelected Councilmember Delores Terry. Minutes July 1, 2014 Page 2 Mayor Coats reminded everyone the annual Fourth of July Fireworks would be held Friday at 8:30 p.m. He then asked Mr. Blackwell to give the details for the event. Mr. Blackwell stated that the preshow would start at 8:30 p.m. with the presentation of the councilmembers and sponsors; the honor guard; and the Community Choir music and singing. The fireworks show will begin at dusk which should be 9:00 p.m. 4. Adjourn With no further business before the Council, Councilmember Penry moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:16 p.m., with a second by Councilmember Cohn. All council voted “AYE”.
