A Message from Fr. José...
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We have already made a long journey with
Jesus. Today we are in the 6th Sunday of
Ordinary Time. In the Gospel Jesus tells us:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the
law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish
but to fulfill.” (Mt 5:17) What is the law? What
are the prophets? When Jesus speaks of the law
and the prophets, He is referring to two different sets of books of the Old Testament. The law
refers to the writings attributed to Moses; the
prophets, as the name implies, are the writings
of the prophets and the wisdom books.
In today's Gospel, Jesus makes reference to
what we consider a summary of the moral code
of the Old Testament, the Commandments. He
tells us that the law does not refer merely to
external principles. It is not an imposition from
outside. Quite the opposite. God's law corresponds to the ideal of perfection that is rooted
in the heart of every person. Jesus came to
reveal to us the will of God.
God had previously revealed his will
through the law, the Covenant of Sinai. This
Covenant constitutes the essential nucleus of
the law. The prophets were responsible for interpreting the Covenant in the historical
moments in which they lived. Jesus comes to
make a new Alliance, a new way of knowing
the will of the Father. Jesus Himself, consistent
with the mission received from his Father, will
comply with the law. This means fulfilling the
law. His actions and His words fit perfectly into
the will of his Father.
The true meaning of the law signifies obedience to the Father and true freedom. Jesus is the
final Prophet sent into this world. In Him,
loving obedience and true freedom is possible.
Fulfilling God's commandments as Jesus
proposes has an overwhelming award. The
example of Jesus invites us to live a Christian
life in our actions as well as in our words.

Diocese. It is also our “annual chili cook-off” that night.

A Walk Through the RCIA:
The main purpose of the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is to help / guide a person on their journey
of seeking full membership in the Catholic Church.
The Rite also is to re-energize / refresh the missionary spirit of all of the members of the parish. We are
constantly growing in & learning about our relationship
with God.
“Inquirers” (people interested in membership) come
from a variety of backgrounds: not baptized; baptized in
the Roman Catholic Church but not evangelized/taught
or completely initiated; or, someone baptized in another
Christian church but in need of further instruction &
initiation.

Mensaje del Padre José Antonio Castañeda
Estimados Hermanas y Hermanos,
Hemos caminado ya un largo camino junto a
Jesús. Hoy estamos ya en el VI domingo del tiempo
ordinario. En el Evangelio Jesús nos dice “No he
venido a abolirla ley o los profetas, sino a dar cumplimiento” (Mt 5,17). ¿Qué es la Ley? ¿Qué son los
profetas? Por ley y profetas, se entienden dos conjuntos diferentes de libros del Antiguo Testamento.
La ley se refiere a los escritos atribuidos a Moisés;
los profetas, como el propio nombre lo indica, son
los escritos de los profetas y los libros sapienciales.
En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús hace referencia a
aquello que consideramos el resumen del código
moral del Antiguo Testamento: los mandamientos
de la ley de Dios. Según el pensamiento de Jesús, la
ley no consiste en principios meramente externos.
La ley no es una imposición que viene de fuera.
Todo lo contrario. En verdad, la ley de Dios corresponde al ideal de perfección que está radicado en el
corazón de cada persona. Jesús ha venido a revelar a
las personas la última voluntad de Dios.
Dios había revelado anteriormente su voluntad a
través de la ley que contiene las cláusulas fundamentales de la alianza del Sinaí. El núcleo esencial
de la ley lo constituyen las cláusulas de la alianza.
Los profetas fueron los encargados de interpretar
esa ley y esa alianza en los momentos históricos que
les tocó vivir. Jesús viene a realizar una nueva alianza, una nueva forma de encontrarse con la voluntad
del Padre. Jesús mismo, coherente con esta misión
recibida de su Padre, cumplirá la ley. Pero el cumplimiento de Jesús significa realización, consumación. Su comportamiento y su palabra encajan
perfectamente en la voluntad de su Padre.
Descubre al hombre el verdadero sentido de la
ley: acompañar y hacer posible la obediencia al
Padre y la auténtica libertad. Jesús es el profeta
definitivo enviado a este mundo. En Él es posible la
amorosa obediencia y la verdadera libertad.
Cumplir y enseñar los mandamientos de Dios como
lo propone Jesús tiene un premio desbordante. El
ejemplo de Jesús nos invita a aquella perfección de
la vida cristiana que realiza principalmente en
acciones pero también en palabras.

Solo para reflexionar...
La libertad es un valor muy alto; todo el mundo aspira
a la libertad. Pero en nuestro mundo hay muchas ataduras y esclavitudes. Muchas veces son impuestas por una
forma de vida que se ha hecho normal en la que la ley es
poseer, competir o pisar a los demás para obtener lo que
se quiere.
También existe la esclavitud al propio “YO”, el egoísmo, a la propia comodidad o a las propias adicciones,
reconocidas o no. En las lecturas de hoy se nos presentan
las leyes divinas que tienen un sentido mucho más profundo y que ofrecen una libertad mucho más real. La ley
divina, en el fondo, se reduce a algo tan sencillo y a la
vez tan difícil como el amor. Se trata, como dice Jesús,
de amar a Dios con toda el alma, con todo el corazón y
toda la mente y al prójimo como a uno mismo. Amar a
Dios de esa manera puede significar un heroísmo muy
grande porque significa estar atentos en todo momento al
placer y la voluntad de Dios más allá de uno mismo; y
amar al prójimo como a uno mismo significa querer lo
mejor para el prójimo, como lo queremos para nosotros.
En el Evangelio, Jesús lleva esta segunda ley a un paso
más adelante y dice: “Amen, como yo los he amado.”
Jesús nos ama mejor de lo que nosotros nos amamos,
porque busca todo el bien y la vida más plena para nosotros; se vacía a si mismo y se entrega incluso a la muerte,
y una muerte de cruz, para que tengamos esa vida. Amar
como Jesús ama significa la ley más alta y el heroísmo
más alto; significa no atarse a nada ni a nadie para vivir
la vida de Dios que es amor.

años el pasado 5 de febrero. Será ordenado sacerdote el próximo 31 de Mayo.
