El presente perfecto (p. 214)
• In Spanish, the present perfect tense is used to talk about what someone has done
in the past without necessarily telling the time when they did it.
Yo he trabajado en una tienda de bicicletas.
I have worked at a bicycle store.
• The present perfect is formed by using the present tense forms of the irregular
verb haber plus the past participle of another verb. Remember that the past
participle is formed by adding -ado to the stem of an -ar verb or -ido to the stem
of an -er or -ir verb. Below is the verb cantar conjugated in the present perfect.

hemos cantado
has cantado
habéis cantado
ha cantado
han cantado
Notice that each conjugation has two parts, and that the second part (in this case,
cantado) is the same in all forms.
• Remember that direct and indirect object pronouns, reflexive pronouns, and
negative words are placed before the first part of the conjugation.
