Creation and identity of the UNR
University life in Rosario began in 1920 as a consequence of the creation of the
National University of Litoral, under the influence of one of the most transcendental
cultural movements in the XX century in Latin America –the University Reform of
1918– and with the aim of developing a higher education in the provinces of Santa Fe,
Corrientes and Entre Ríos.
Towards the end of the XX century, Rosario and its region already had a variety of
middle schools that would pave the way to the first colleges that make up UNR today.
On November 29th, 1968, the National Government issued the Law 17,987, by virtue
of which seven colleges, institutes and dependant organisms from the Universidad
Nacional del Litoral in Rosario, was to create the tenth Argentine National University:
the Universidad Nacional de Rosario. One of the four Macro Universities in our country;
Public, Autonomous and Autarchic. Unlike other universities of the world, our
institution has a unique university campus: “the city of Rosario and its region”.
Our motto: “Confingere Hominem Cogitantem” (Forming people of thought)
Our logo: In the middle, there is a votive lamp of the Propylaeum at the Flag
Memorial and its torch to symbolize the eternal and necessary aspiration of men to get
closer to the ideals of freedom and justice. The image of the rising star represents the
continuous search of the highest ideal: perfection. The sunbeams represent the
awakening of a better future.
