Akron Basketball Coaching Staff
Thirteenth-year head coach Keith Dambrot headlines a staff with over 50 years of collegiate coaching
experience and additional years of coaching experience at the high school level, including two OHSAA
state championships.
Coach Dambrot is in his 13th year at the helm of
the Zips and his 19th year at a collegiate head coach.
In addition to his collegiate experience, Dambrot has
a 69-10 record and two OHSAA state titles in three
years as head coach of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High
School.
Assistant coach Charles Thomas is in his seventh
year with the Zips and brings 10 years of collegiate
experience and 15 years of professional play. As a
graduate of Eastern Michigan, leading the Eagles to
their first-ever Mid-American Conference Championship, Thomas started his pro career with the Detroit
Pistons (1991-93) before spending six seasons in the
CBA, then moving on to Australia and Sweden.
Assistant coach Terry Weigand is one of the more
experienced coaches on the staff, with over 25 years
of coaching under his belt. As a player at Tiffin and an
assistant at Ashland under Coach Dambrot, Weigand
took overs the reigns at Ashland after Dambrot was
named the head coach at Central Michigan.
Assistant coach Rick McFadden is in his 12th season with the Zips. McFadden played and graduated
from The University of Akron, and helped the Zips to a
19-10 record in 2004-05 as a player.
Director of Basketball Operations Steve McNees
is in his sixth year with the program. Like McFadden,
McNees played for the Zips (2008-11). McNees broke
the school record for games played (141) and helped
the Zips to two MAC titles and two NCAA Tournament
appearances.

Staff
Head coach Keith Dambrot and the Akron Zips men’s
basketball staff will conduct the 2016 Team Shootout. All
games will be officiated by registered high school officials.

Location
The 2016 Team Shootout will be hosted by The University
of Akron. The city of Akron is centrally located 30 miles
south of Cleveland and 20 miles north of Canton. All
games will be conducted on the campus of The University
of Akron.
Insurance
Each camper should have their own medical insurance.
The staff of the 2016 Team Shootout will not be responsible for medical and dental insurance. All team members
must complete an emergency medical form before participating in the 2016 Team Shootout.
These camps are available to any and all entrants.

I am aware of the risks, hazards and inherent dangers that may
arise due to my child's participation in the 2016 University of Akron
Team Shootout being held at The University of Akron (collectively
referred to as “University” following dates: June 17 and/or June 18,
2016.
In consideration for being allowed to participate in said activity, I
hereby release, waive and discharge UNIVERSITY, its instructors,
agents and employees from every claim, liability or demand of any
kind sustained, whether caused by the negligence of the UNIVERSITY or otherwise. This release shall be binding upon any heirs, administrators, executors and assigns of mine.
I further agree to indemnify the UNIVERSITY from any loss, liability, damage or cost it may incur due to my participation in said activity
any way whether caused by UNIVERSITY or otherwise.
In the event of illness or injury resulting or arising directly or indirectly out of said activity, I hereby give my consent and authorization
for (1) the administration of emergency first aid care and treatment at
the scene of an emergency by faculty, staff members or volunteers of
UNIVERSITY or (2) the administration of any treatment deemed necessary by a license physician or dentist and (3) the transfer to any
hospital reasonably accessible. This authorization is not intended to
cover major surgery unless the medical opinions of two (2) licensed
physicians or dentist, concurring in the necessity for such surgery,
are obtained prior to performance of surgery.
I further declare and warrant that I am covered by sufficient medical and dental insurance and that such insurance will remain in effect
during my child’s participation in said activity.
