The Right Way to Deal with a Right of Way
Throughout Texas, there are thousands of miles of buried pipelines bringing you and your neighbors
natural gas service, and even though you can’t see them, you still play an important role in keeping
them safe. Some pipelines are buried below streets and highways, some are found underneath public
land and some may be located on your property in a pipeline right of way.
A pipeline right of way is a strip of land over and around buried pipelines that allows them to be permanently located on
public and/or private land to provide natural gas service. Rights of way should be kept clear of obstructions to enable Texas
Gas Service employees to safely operate, patrol, inspect, maintain and repair natural gas pipelines.
Know What’s Below – Be cautious before beginning any construction projects on your property. You should never dig or
construct anything without first calling 811 to have the natural gas pipelines and other utility locations marked at no cost to
you. It’s important that you do not install any structures, store anything that could be an obstruction or plant trees or shrubs
on or along rights of way.
Remember, if you have a natural gas pipeline near your home:
> Do call 811 at least two full business days before you dig.
> Don’t plant trees or tall shrubs on the right of way.
> Don’t dig, build, store or place anything on or near the right of way.

La Manera Correcta de Tratar con el Derecho de Vía
A lo largo de Texas existen miles de kilómetros de tuberías subterráneas que llevan a ti y a tus vecinos el
servicio de gas natural y, aunque no puedas verlas, tu juegas un papel muy importante para mantenerlas
seguras. Algunas tuberías están enterradas bajo calles y autopistas, otras bajo terrenos públicos y otras
más pueden estar enterradas dentro de tu propiedad, dentro de un derecho de vía de tuberías.
Un derecho de vía de tuberías es una franja de terreno sobre y alrededor de tuberías subterráneas, que les permite permanecer
localizadas permanentemente en terrenos públicos o privados para proveer el servicio de gas natural. Los derechos de vía de
tuberías deben mantenerse libres de cualquier obstrucción para que los empleados de Texas Gas Service puedan de manera
segura operar, supervisar, inspeccionar, mantener y reparar las tuberías de gas natural.
Llama Antes de Excavar – Se cuidadoso antes de empezar cualquier proyecto de construcción en tu propiedad. Nunca debes
excavar o construir algo sin antes llamar al 811 para que, de manera gratuita, las líneas subterráneas de gas natural y otros
servicios queden debidamente localizadas y señalizadas. Es muy importante que no instales ninguna estructura, guardes algo
que pueda ser una obstrucción, o siembres árboles o arbustos sobre o alrededor del derecho de vía de tuberías.
Recuerda, si tienes una tubería de gas cerca de tu casa:
> Llama al 811 antes de excavar.
> No siembres árboles o arbustos altos en el derecho de vía.
> No excaves, construyas, guardes o coloques cualquier cosa sobre o alrededor del derecho de vía.
