Travel Information for mODa8 Participants
The mODa8 conference will be held in the Palace of the Earl of Valdeparaiso at Almagro in
Ciudad Real (Spain). The address is:
Palacio de los Condes de Valdeparaiso.
C/ Bernardas 2, Almagro, Ciudad Real.
Spain.
Ciudad Real is located 200 km South of Madrid and connected with Madrid by high speed train
(AVE). The trip takes 50 minutes. Trains stopping in Ciudad Real leave from Puerta de Atocha
railway station. Almagro is then 20km far from Ciudad Real.
Once in Madrid you will have to go from the airport (Barajas, Terminals 1,2, 3 and 4) to the
railway station (Puerta de Atocha). There are 2 options either by Underground or by Taxi.
Madrid Barajas Airport
Barajas Airport has four terminals known as T1, T2, T3 and T4. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are connected
by corridors, which can be used to walk between them (maximum 20 minutes). Terminal 4 is not
connected directly with T1,T2,T3. Iberia and other companies from OneWorld Alliance (British
Airways, American Airlines) operate from this terminal. At T4 Satellite part of the transit area
is split from the checking in/baggage claim area. So it can be necessary to take a train journey
(before/after crossing passport control) of about 10 minutes to reach your baggage.
Note: For return journey, this terminal is a silent one - flight changes are only displayed on screens
(except in the case of Iberia Airline).
Barajas - Puerta de Atocha by Underground (recommended)
It takes about 50 minutes after several line transfers.
The trip has to be done either from the station “Aeropuerto T1,T2,T3 ” or from “Aeropuerto
T4 ” to ”Atocha Renfe”. Be aware there is a previous station called just “Atocha”.
The “Metro” station “Aeropuerto T1,T2,T3 ” is located at Terminal 3, so if you are arriving at
T1 or T2 you will have to follow the Metro signs. “Aeropuerto T4 ” station is two stations further
and is the end of line 8 (pink).

To travel from and to Barajas Airport (Either T1,T2,T3 or T4) you will need a ticket with an extra
fee sold in all the Metro stations. This ticket is called “Sencillo Metro + Suplemento Aeropuerto”
and costs 2 e. You may buy another ticket for the return trip, these tickets will not expire.
Route form the Airport to “Atocha Renfe”:
• From either “Aeropuerto T1, T2, T3 ” or “Aeropuerto T4 ” take line 8 (pink) to “Nuevos
Ministerios”.
• At “Nuevos Ministerios” transfer to line 10 (dark blue). Take this to “Tribunal ”, three stations
in the direction of “Puerta del Sur ”.
• At “Tribunal ” transfer to line 1 (light blue). Take this to “Atocha Renfe”, six stations in the
direction of “Valdecarros”.

Barajas - Puerta de Atocha by Taxi:
It takes about 30 minutes under normal traffic conditions and it costs around 25-30e. Prices may
vary in terms of the circumstances, for example, there are extra charges for taxis from Madrid Barajas
Airport and there is also an extra charge for arriving at train and underground stations.

Puerta de Atocha, Railway Station:
Trains to Barcelona, Sevilla, Valencia, and other main cities in the South/East of Spain depart from
Puerta de Atocha Station. Atocha Station is organized in three connected sections, Underground
(Metro) station, Commuter Trains (Cercanias) station and the Railway station from where the high
speed train stopping at Ciudad Real departs. RENFE or AVE signs are used to identify this station.
When arriving by Underground, you will have to walk through Metro and Cercanias Stations to
arrive at Puerta de Atocha, AVE/RENFE Station. In the following map there is a scheme indicating
the route. There is no need to step outside because the three stations are connected. Just follow the
AVE/RENFE signs.
The main ticket office is on the ground floor of the historical building of Puerta de Atocha
AVE/RENFE station. Some members of the organization will be waiting for the participants to help
with the process of buying tickets. Be aware that there are other ticket offices, the meeting point
will be the Main Ticket office by the Tropical Garden at the historical building of Puerta de Atocha.
For international connection users a 25% discount will be applied when buying a ticket for any
of the trains to Ciudad Real. To apply this discount you will have to present your Flight Ticket and
your Boarding card or your Electronic Ticket Reservation (for the return ticket). In order to qualify
for this discount the time between your flight tickets and your train to Ciudad Real should not be
longer than 48 hours.
At the ticket office you will have to queue at the VENTA PARA HOY lines (Tickets for
Today). Note that there is no need to pick up a queuing number (needed only for buying tickets in
advance). A special line is opened 30 minutes before each departure to buy tickets for the immediate
trip (PUERTOLLANO/CIUDAD REAL).
There is the opportunity to buy the tickets at the Travel Agency “Viajes el Corte Ingles” with
an extra fee of 5e but without queuing and fluent English is expected to be spoken there. You can
still claim your 25% discount due to an international trip in any case. The travel agency is the last
comercial office by the platforms, see the dashed line at Atocha scheme above.
To access the platforms it is necessary to proceed to the Boarding Lounge, on the first floor.

Ciudad Real
A couple of buses will be waiting for the participants at Ciudad Real Station to take them to Almagro
where mODa8 will be held. Buses will depart from Ciudad Real Train Station at 18h and 19:30 h.
If you arrive later than 19:30 you can either travel to Almagro by train, or by Taxi. A Taxi from
Ciudad Real to Almagro has a fixed price of 28e/ 23e (Sunday and nights/weekdays).
