THE NATURAL PARKS OF ALICANTE

OBJECTIVES:
To know three of the nine natural parks located in Alicante, as the first part of a programme that
will include all of them. In this case we will study: the Parc Natural del Penyal d’Ifac, the Parc
Natural del Carrascar de la Font Roja and the Parc Natural de la Serra de Mariola.
METHODOLOGY:
The subject is developed in class sessions (theory) and field practical activities (visits to the
Natural Parks).
Class sessions will be dedicated to study the following aspects of each park:
-Physical aspects: situation, limits and extension, geology, hydrology, climate and
everything that is of interest from the point of view of physical geography
-Biological aspects: flora and fauna
-Human aspects: presence of human beings in the park since there was news about it and
until the present day, legislation, Plan for the Organisation of Natural Resources (PORN, for its
Spanish initials) and Master Plan for Use and Management (PRUG, for its Spanish initials).
The practical part will include at least three field trips to visit one of the three parks covered in the
subject.
SYSTEM OF ASSESSMENT:
It will be based on class attendance, at least 80% of the time dedicated to theoretical sessions and
field practical work.
