INDICACIONES: La Gabapentina es un antiepiléptico efectivo en el tratamiento de las crisis parciales con o sin
generalización, y como terapia adjunta en pacientes que no responden o que son intolerantes a las drogas usuales.
Así también se indica en el tratamiento del dolor neuropático (dolor causado por enfermedades inflamatorias o
degenerativas que afectan el sistema nervioso periférico).
INDICATIONS: Gabapentin is an antiepileptic used in the treatment of partial seizures with or without generalization,
and as adjuntive therapy in patients who do not respond or are intolerant to usual drugs.
This is also indicated for the treatment of neuropathic pain (pain caused by inflammatory or degenerative diseases
that affects the peripheral nervous system).
ADMINISTRACIÓN Y DOSIS: La dosis debe adecuarse para cada paciente.
Dosis usual en adultos y niños mayores de 12 años:
Epilepsia: Inicial 300 mg en dosis única el primer día, cada día subsiguiente se aumenta una dosis de 300 mg
hasta lograr el control antiepiléptico deseado (usualmente 900 a 1200 mg diarios, en tres dosis de 300 mg o tres
dosis de 400 mg administradas en intervalos de 8 horas). Algunos pacientes pueden necesitar dosis mayores que
deben ser indicadas por el médico.
Dosis máxima diaria: 2400 mg.
En niños la dosis debe basarse en el peso corporal, y se aumenta gradualmente al igual que en los adultos.
Dolor neuropático en adultos: Dosis inicial, 300 mg, ajustando progresivamente al igual que en el tratamiento de
epilepsia, hasta un máximo de 1800 mg diarios (600 mg cada 8 horas), siguiendo cuidadosamente las
instrucciones de su médico.
Es importante respetar el horario pautado. Si se le olvida tomar la dosis tómela tan pronto como sea posible, sin
embargo, si es hora para la siguiente, sáltese aquella que no tomo y siga con la dosificación regular.
No tomar una dosis doble para compensar la que olvidó.
No usar ni más ni menos que la dosis indicada, ni tampoco más seguido que lo prescrito por su médico.
Se recomienda tomar la gabapentina con un vaso lleno de agua. Puede tomarse antes, durante o después de
las comidas.
ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE: The dose must be adjusted for each patient.
Usual dose in adults and children over 12 years old:
Epilepsy: Initial 300 mg in single dose the first day, every subsequent day is increased a dose of 300 mg until
obtaining the wished antiepileptic control (usually 900 to 1200 mg daily, in three doses of 300 mg or three doses
of 400 mg administered at intervals of 8 hours). Some patients may need higher doses, which must be prescribed
by the physician.
Daily maximum permissible dose: 2400 mg
On children the dose must be based on the corporal weight, and it is increased gradually like in adults.
Neuropathic pain in adults: Initial dose, 300 mg, adjusting progressively like in the epilepsy treatment, until a
maximum of 1800 mg daily (600 mg every 8 hours), following carefully the instructions given by the physician.
It is important to respect the scheduled time. If you forget to take one dose, you may take it as soon as possible;
nevertheless, if it is time for the next one, skip the one that your did not take, following with the regular dosage.
Do not take a double dose in replacement of the forgotten one.
Never use lower or higher doses than the indicated one, neither more frequently than the prescribed by your
physician.
It is recommended to take the Gabapentin with a full glass of water. It can be taken before, during or after the
meals.
CONTRAINDICACIONES: Hipersensibilidad al medicamento.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to medicine. Pregnancy and nursing.
Embarazo y
lactancia.
PRECAUCIONES:
- Pacientes que tienen o han tenido enfermedad del riñón: usar con precaución y ajustar la dosis.
- No discontinuar el tratamiento aunque se sienta bien.
- No tomar bebidas alcohólicas mientras esté en tratamiento con gabapentina.
- Administrar con especial precaución a pacientes ancianos y pacientes con historia de enfermedad psicótica.
- No conducir automóviles ni manejar maquinaria peligrosa o de precisión durante las primeras semanas
de tratamiento.
- Se recomienda reducir las dosis o discontinuar el tratamiento con gabapentina, de manera gradual, en un
período de 7 días.
PRECAUTIONS:
- Patients that have or have had kidney failure: use with precaution and fit the dose.
- Do not discontinue the treatment although you feel well.
- Do not drink alcohol during the treatment with Gabapentin.
- Administer with special precaution to elderly patients, and patients with history of psychotic disease.
- Do not drive automobiles nor handle dangerous or precision machinery during the first weeks
of treatment
- It is recommended to reduce the doses or to discontinue the treatment with Gabapentin, gradually, in a
period of 7 days.
EFECTOS SECUNDARIOS: Más frecuentes: somnolencia, desvanecimiento, ataxia y fatiga.
Menos frecuentes: movimientos involuntarios de los ojos, temblores, diplopía, ambliopía, faringitis, disartria, ganancia
de peso, dispepsia, amnesia, debilidad, parestesia, artralgia, purpura, leucopenia, ansiedad e infección del tracto
urinario.
SECONDARY EFFECTS: More frequent: drowsiness, fainting, ataxia and fatigue.
Less frequent: involuntary eyes movements, tremors, diplopia, ambliopia, pharyngitis, dysartria, weight gain,
dyspepsia, amnesia, weakness, paresthesia, arthralgia, purple, leukopenia, anxiety, and urinary tract infection.
INTERACCIONES MEDICAMENTOSAS: Antiácidos, cimetidina y otros antiepilépticos.
