Cómo limpiar y reusar las cánulas de traqueostomía Bivona:
1. Utilice estas instrucciones junto con las del fabricante que parecen en el
empaquetado para cerciorarse de que sigue los pasos correctos para el tipo
de cánula Bivona de su niño.
2. Determine si la cánula de su hijo tiene una parte giratoria (ver imagen). Si
es así, lo primero es quitar la parte giratoria. Para quitarla, inserte la cuña
para desconectar entre el plástico giratorio y el reborde de la base del cuello
de silicona. Quite la parte giratoria de la cánula de traqueostomía. Si no
tiene esta parte giratoria, la cánula de traqueostomía no se desarma y se
limpia así.
3. Quite la cánula y el tubo obturador (ver figura). Lave la cánula y todas las
piezas con un jabón para platos transparente y enjuague completamente.
4. Coloque el obturador, la pieza giratoria y la cánula uno al lado del otro, en
una olla de agua hirviendo. Luego retíre la olla del fuego y cúbrala.
5. Antes de sacar la cánula y las otras piezas del agua, deje que se enfríe.
6. Coloque la cánula y las piezas sobre una toalla de papel limpia y deje secar.

7. Cuando todas las piezas estén secas, lávese las manos e inspeccione bien la
cánula par ver si está dañada. Si nota algún rasguño, abolladura o grietas,
tírela y use una nueva.
8. Si la cánula de traqueostomía de su hijo tiene la parte giratoria, vuelva a
colocarla deslizando la parte giratoria en la base. Sujete la cánula por los
rebordes. Trate de no tocar la parte que quedará adentro, en la tráquea de
su hijo.
9. Guárdela en una bolsa plástica limpia con cierre.
10. Puede limpiar y reusar una cánula Bivona hasta 5 veces, si no nota que
esté dañada.

To clean and reuse the
Bivona tracheostomy
tubes, clean all of the
surrounding areas
following these stepby-step directions.
How to clean and reuse the Bivona tracheostomy tubes:
1. Use these instructions with your manufacturer’s instructions provided in
the packaging to make sure you do what is correct for your child’s specific
version of the Bivona tracheostomy tube.
2. Determine if your child’s tracheostomy tube has a swivel (see picture). If it
does, you must first remove the tracheostomy tube swivel. To remove the
tracheostomy tube swivel, insert the disconnect-wedge between the plastic
swivel and the base of the silicone neck flange. Remove the tracheostomy
tube swivel. If it does not have a swivel, the tracheostomy tube does not
come apart and is cleaned as it is.
3. Remove the tube and the tube obturator (see picture). Wash the tube and
all parts with clear dish soap and rinse completely.
4. Place the tube, the swivel, and the obturator side by side in a pan of rapidly
boiling water. Then, remove from the heat and cover the pan.
5. Allow the water to cool before you remove the tube and other parts from
the water.
6. Place the tube and parts on a clean paper towel to dry.

7. When all the parts are dry, wash you hands and inspect the tube closely for
any possible damage. If you notice scratches, dents or cracks, throw that
tube away and use a new one.
8. If your child’s tracheostomy tube has a swivel, re-attach the tube by sliding
the swivel sleeve back onto the base of the tracheostomy tube. Hold the
tracheostomy tube by the flanges. Try not to touch the part of the tube that
will lie in your child’s trachea.
9. Store in a clean zip lock bag.
10. You can clean and re-use a Bivona tracheostomy tube up to 5 times if
there are no signs of damage.
