ABSTRAC
The aim of the course is to introduce Mandarin language to Colombian students, create in
their mentality the image of east Asian culture in such a way broadening their outlook, help
them to understand the cultural differences and avoid cultural shock in case of travelling to
one of Asian cultures.

Proporcionar a los asistentes la oportunidad de mejorar sus habilidades conversacionales,
formales e informales, en inglés, de manera que puedan afianzar su discurso y adquirir
nuevas estructuras y vocabulario.

This course will prepare students for international travel, work, or study abroad and when
working with non-Colombians in Colombia. Students will analyze etiquette, education, politics,
and religion through movies, magazines, music, art, and television from around the world to
create universal strategies on how to interact with any culture with ease. Students will
develop an understanding that individuals throughout the world share many similarities and
differences, which should be celebrated as part of the human experience. It is the first of four
courses required to receive the Minor in English and Intercultural Studies degree—an
impressive qualification designed to provide an advantage in the competitive markets for jobs,
scholarships, and graduate-level study. It is offered to students with an English level 7 or 6
(with an average grade of 3.5 in English).
