We are writing to express our concern at the increase in violent forced evictions in China.
We are particularly concerned about the silencing tactics that lawyers and activists are subjected to when
working to support communities that are facing forced evictions.
This includes the imprisonment of housing rights activist and former lawyer Ni Yulan and her husband Dong
Jiqin and Mao Hengfeng.
We urge you to:
• Immediately and unconditionally release Ni Yulan, Dong Jiqin and Mao Hengfeng. Ensure that
human rights defenders are able to carry out their peaceful work without fear of hindrance,
intimidation, arbitrary detention or imprisonment;
• Immediately halt all forced evictions and ensure adequate safeguards are put in place in line with
international law
• Develop and adopt concrete and effective measures to guarantee a minimum degree of security of
tenure to the entire population, sufficient at least to protect them from forced eviction and other
threats and harassment.
• Ensure that all victims of forced evictions have access to independent and impartial adjudication of
their complaints and to an effective remedy.

Le escribimos para expresar nuestra preocupación por el aumento de los desalojos forzosos violentos en
China. Tenemos una especial preocupación por las prácticas de silenciamiento a las que se someten tanto a
la abogacía como a activistas que trabajan para apoyar a las comunidades que se enfrentan a los desalojos
forzosos. Esto incluye el encarcelamiento de las defensoras Mao Hengfeng, Ni Yulan y su marido Dong
Jiqin.
Le instamos a que:

Libere inmediata e incondicionalmente a Ni Yulan, a Dong Jiqin y a Mao Hengfeng. Garantice que
defensores de derechos humanos puedan llevar a cabo sus labores pacíficas sin temor a
represalias, intimidación, detención o encarcelamiento arbitrario.
Suspenda inmediatamente todos los desalojos forzosos, explícitamente prohibidos por ley, y se
asegure de que todas las personas tienen acceso a protección legal adecuada de conformidad con
el derecho internacional.
Desarrolle y adopte medidas concretas y eficaces para garantizar un grado de seguridad a toda la
población suficiente, al menos, para protegerles de los desalojos forzados, así como de amenazas y
hostigamientos.
Garantice que todas las víctimas de los desalojos forzosos tienen acceso a la protección legal
independiente e imparcial.
