This Dissertation will deal with biomedical research, in particular, about the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD). For several years this matter has become the
subject of various studies and social and doctrinal problems.

This biomedical branch is the conjunction of the scientific advances in assisted
reproduction and genetic engineering, whose combination resulting in PGD.
As we shall see, the subject emerged as a way of combating sterility or infertility, but
thanks to advances in reproductive technologies, it was improving and expanding its
applications, while creating a way to prevent or, at least combat, the risk of transmission of
genetic diseases from the parents to the children, whether both parents carry the disease or
just one of them.
We will see how it has created a great controversy around this area, emerging positions in
favour and against of the PGD, appealing to ethical and moral as well as legal arguments.

Este TFG tratará sobre Investigación biomédica, en concreto, acerca del Diagnóstico
Genético Preimplantacional. Desde hace ya varios años viene siendo objeto de diversos
estudios y de problemas doctrinales y sociales.
Esta rama biomédica es la conjunción de los avances científicos en reproducción
asistida y tecnología genética, cuya combinación da como resultado el DGP.
Como veremos, surgió como una forma de combatir la esterilidad o la infertilidad,
pero gracias a los avances en técnicas de reproducción, se fue mejorando y ampliando sus
usos, creando así una forma de evitar o cuanto menos combatir el riesgo de transmisión de
enfermedades genéticas de padres a hijos, ya sean ambos progenitores portadores de dicha
enfermedad o tan solo uno de ellos.
Veremos cómo se ha ido creando una gran controversia en torno a este ámbito,
surgiendo posturas tanto a favor como en contra, apelando a distintos argumentos éticos y
morales, así como jurídicos.
