FAQ’s About Eighth Grade Exit Interviews - 2016 Why do we have to do an exit interview? There are two purposes for this activity. 1) This covers the speaking and listening standards for Common Core; 2) This activity provides an opportunity for our students to speak with a member of our community about their experiences at John Adams Middle School. When and where will the interviews be held? The interviews will be conducted on Wednesday, May 18th and Thursday, May 19th from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM in the school library. How long will each interview be? Each student will speak with an interviewer for a maximum of 15 minutes. Who will interview the students? Members of our surrounding community will interview students, not teachers at this school. What do I wear? Advisory class. You should dress to impress. This will be discussed in your Will the interviewer give me a grade? Yes. They will use a rubric to evaluate you based on your appearance, demeanor, responses, preparation, and project presentation. Finally they will give you written feedback and comments on their overall impression about your interview. Will the interview affect my grade? Yes. Your interview will be a part of your Advisory grade. It counts for 20% of your overall grade. Your Advisory teacher will be looking at your preparation, practice, and participation (rubric evaluation sheet) in the interview. How do I prepare for the interview? Take the questions given to you in your Advisory class and write each question on an index card with a well-thought out response. Then, practice with your Advisory teacher and/or classmates, and an adult at home. What if I get nervous? Relax, take your time, think before you speak, and the interviewer will prompt and help you through the process. What if I am absent the day of my interview? If you already know that you are going to be absent on the 18th or 19th, please let Ms. Murphy know ASAP. How will I know the day and time of my interview? Your Advisory teacher will have a schedule of your day and time. You will also receive in your Advisory class a call slip in which you will fill out your scheduled date and time the day before your interview. How do I leave my class to go to the interview? The day of your interview, you are responsible for showing your teacher the call slip card with the scheduled time of your interview. Will I need to bring anything to my interview? Yes. You will need to bring a sample of your work. It can be from any grade 6 – 8. Pregunta Frecuentes Sobre las Entrevistas de Culminación de 8º Grado 2016 ¿Porqué nosotros debemos hacer las entrevistas de culminación de 8º grado? Las entrevistas se realizarán el miércoles, 18 de mayo y el jueves 19 de mayo desde las 8:30 AM hasta las 12:00 PM. ¿Cuánto durará cada entrevista? Cada estudiante hablará con la persona que lo entreviste por un máximo de 15. ¿Quién entrevistará a los estudiantes? Miembros de alrededor de nuestra comunidad entrevistarán a los estudiantes, no los maestros de esta escuela. ¿Cómo me debo vestir? Deberías vestir ropa adecuada para dar una buena impresión. Se hablará sobre esto en tu clase de Advisory. ¿Me dará una calificación el entrevistador? Sí. Ellos usarán una rúbrica para evaluar al estudiante en base a su apariencia, comportamiento, respuestas, preparación y presentación del proyecto. Por último, ellos les darán información por escrito y comentarios sobre la impresión general acerca de su entrevista. ¿La entrevista afectará mi calificación? Sí. La entrevista será una parte de su calificación de Advisory. Cuenta para el 20% de su calificación general. El maestro de Advisory estará considerando los puntos obtenidos por su preparación, práctica y participación (en la hoja de la rúbrica de evaluación) durante la entrevista. ¿Cómo debo prepararme para la entrevista? Luego practica con tu maestra de Advisory y/o un compañero(a) de clase, y con un adulto en la casa. ¿Qué pasa si me pongo nervioso(a)? Debes relajarte, tomar tu tiempo, pensar antes de hablar, y la persona que este realizando la entrevista te guiará y ayudará a través de este proceso. ¿Qué ocurre si estoy ausente el día de mi entrevista? Si ya sabes que vas a estar ausente el 18 o 19, por favor, hazle saber a señorita Murphy lo antes posible. ¿Cómo sabré la hora y fecha de mi entrevista? La maestra/o de Advisory tendrá una lista con el horario y fecha de las entrevistas. También recibirás una tarjeta que tú vas a rellenar con la hora de tu cita el día anterior a tu entrevista en la clase de Advisory. ¿Cómo salgo de mi clase para ir a mi entrevista? El día de tu entrevista, tú serás responsable de mostrarle a tu maestra la tarjeta con el horario y fecha de tu entrevista para poder salir de su clase. ¿Voy a tener que llevar algo a mi entrevista? Sí. Tú tendrás que llevar un ejemplo de tu trabajo. Puede ser de cualquier grado 6-8.
