Gobierno aumentó salario mínimo y beneficio de alimentación

GOBIERNO AUMENTÓ SALARIO MÍNIMO Y BENEFICIO DE
ALIMENTACIÓN
El Ejecutivo Nacional en Venezuela decretó un aumento del 30% del salario mínimo a
todos los trabajadores públicos y privados, mediante el Decreto Nº 2.307 publicado en
la Gaceta Oficial Nº 40.893 del 29 de abril de 2016. De manera que el salario mínimo
mensual queda fijado en Bs. 15.051,15 a partir del 1° de mayo de 2016. El salario
mínimo de los aprendices será de Bs. 11.193,27 mensuales.
Este aumento se aplica también a las pensiones otorgadas por el Instituto Venezolano de
los Seguros Sociales (“IVSS”). En consecuencia, a partir del 1° de mayo de 2016, el
tope de 5 salarios mínimos para cotizar y recibir prestaciones por parte del IVSS será de
Bs. 75.255,75; y el tope de 10 salarios mínimos para las prestaciones dinerarias relativas
al régimen prestacional del empleo será de Bs. 150.511,50.
Adicionalmente, el beneficio de alimentación fue aumentado mediante el Decreto
N°2.308 publicado en la misma gaceta, de 2,5 U.T. por día a 3,5 U.T. por día. Lo que
quiere decir que el monto mensual que debe pagarse a cada trabajador por este concepto
es de Bs. 18.585,00 a partir del 1° de mayo de 2016.

GOVERNMENT RAISES MINIMUM WAGE AND FOOD BENEFIT
PAYMENTS
The Venezuelan Government raised the minimum wage applicable to employees of the
public and private sector in 30%, by way of Decree Nº 2,307 published in the Official
Gazette Nº 40,893 of April 29, 2016. Therefore, effective May 1st , 2016 the minimum
monthly wage is set at VEF 15,051.15 (equivalent to U.S. dollars 39.76 at the Dicom
exchange rate of 378.55 VEF per U.S. dollar). The monthly minimum wage for
apprentices is set at VEF 11,193.27 (equivalent to U.S. dollars 29.56 at the Dicom
exchange rate of 378.55 VEF per U.S. dollar).
This raise will be applicable to retirement pensions paid by the Venezuelan Social
Security Institute (“IVSS”). Hence, from May 1st, 2016 the cap of five minimum wages
required to pay and collect payments from the IVSS will be of VEF 75,255.75
(equivalent to U.S. dollars 198.80 at the Dicom exchange rate of 378.55 VEF per U.S.
dollar); and the cap of 10 minimum wages for unemployment indemnity will be of VEF
150,511.50 (equivalent to U.S. dollars 397.60 at the Dicom exchange rate of 378.55
VEF per U.S. dollar).
In addition, the food benefit was raised from 2.5 fiscal units per day to 3.5 fiscal units
per day, pursuant to Decree Nº 2,308 published in the same Gazette. Therefore,
effective May 1st, 2016 the total monthly amount to be paid as food benefit will be VEF
18,585.00 (equivalent to U.S. dollars 49.09 at the Dicom exchange rate of 378.55 VEF
per U.S. dollar).
