The Euro, a currency for Europe
Seminar organized by the ESC in Madrid on l0 February l998
As part of the Information Programme for the European Citizen (PRINCE), the
Economic and Social Committee (ESC) is organizing, in conjunction with the
European Commission and the European Parliament, a series of four seminars on
the theme "The Euro, a currency for Europe". The aim is to train up people who
will be able, in their turn, to play a role in informing and catalyzing opinion within
their respective associations.
The third seminar will be held on 10 February l998, from 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., in
the Sala Internacional del Ministerio de Sanidad y Consumo, Paseo del Prado,
Madrid, no. 18. This seminar will be organized with the cooperation of the Instituto
Nacional del Consumo del Ministerio de Sanidad y Consumo.
Two roundtables feature on the programme that day. Mr Enrique CASTELLÓN
LEAL, President of the Instituto Nacional del Consumo will start off the
discussions. The topics will be:
- "The Euro, a prerequisite for completion of the single market", when three
members of the Economic and Social Committee will have a chance to relay
the viewpoints of each of the three groups of which the ESC is composed
(employers, workers and various interests);
- "Practical and tangible benefits of the Euro in the day-to-day life of citizens", on
which the representatives of a number of sectors of activity such as banking,
insurance, tourism, business and public services, as well as consumers'
representatives, will voice their views.
Mrs Ana PALACIO VALLELERSUNDI, Member of the European Parliament, and
Mr Ismael DIAZ YUBERO, Vice-president of the Instituto Nacional del Consumo,
will wind up the debates.
The next seminar on the Euro will be held in London on 2 March l998.
