The Industrial Production Index adjusted for calendar effects
increases 0.6% in August as compared to the same month in 2006
The General Industrial Production Index (IPI) experienced a 0.6% variation in August 2007 in
comparison with the same month the previous year. After adjusting for calendar effects, the
interannual variation of the IPI was estimated at 0.6%.
By economic destination of the goods, the variation rates with respect to the same month
from the previous year were 0.6% for consumer goods (7.2% for durable consumer goods
and -0.2% for non-durable consumer goods), 2.7% for capital goods, -0.3% for intermediate
goods and 0.2% for energy.
After adjusting for calendar effects, these interannual rates were estimated at 0.6% for
consumer goods (7.2% for durable consumer goods and -0.2% for non-durable consumer
goods), 2.8% for capital goods, -0.3% for intermediate goods and 0.2% for energy.
The average rate of the IPI adjusted for calendar effects increases 2.7% in the
first eight months of 2007
The average IPI rate stood at 3.1% during the first eight months of 2007 in comparison with
the same month of 2006. After adjusting for calendar effects, this average rate stood at 2.7%.
The evolution of the average industrial production rate by economic destination of the goods
was 3.3% for consumer goods (10.3% for durable consumer goods and 2.1% for non-durable
consumer goods), 7.2% for capital goods, 2.5% for intermediate goods and -1.2% for energy.
After adjusting for calendar effects, these average rates for the first eight months stood at
2.8% for consumer goods (9.7% for durable consumer goods and 1.7% for non-durable
consumer goods), 6.8% for capital goods, 2.1% for intermediate goods and -1.3% for energy.
Activities with the greatest average growth in the January-August 2007 period were
"Manufacture of furniture; manufacturing n.e.c.", -12.8%, and "Manufacture of machinery and
equipment n.e.c.", 12.5%.
In contrast, those with the lowest growth were "Manufacture of office machinery and
computers", -14.1%, and "Tanning and dressing of leather; manufacture of luggage,
handbags, saddlery, harness and footwear", -7.8%.
