Contaminantes Orgánicos Persistentes y Salud Infantil:
Protegiendo Nuestro más Preciado Futuro

Teniendo en cuenta el objetivo fundamental del Convenio de Estocolmo ”Proteger la salud humana y el medio
ambiente frente a los contaminantes orgánicos persistentes”, y los artículos 7 y 10 que velan por la repercusión
de los contaminantes sobre poblaciones vulnerables, incluyendo a los niños, la Organización Mundial de la
Salud, el Foro Intergubernamental de Seguridad Química y el Ministerio de Vivienda, Ordenamiento Territorial y
Medio Ambiente del Uruguay han co- organizado un evento sobre la vulnerabilidad infantil y las acciones a
tomar.
Con tal motivo nos es muy grato invitarle al evento: “Contaminantes Orgánicos Persistentes y Salud
Infantil: Protegiendo Nuestro más Preciado Futuro: capacitando a la infancia para asegurar un
mundo mas seguro, limpio y sano"; que se realizara el miércoles 4 de mayo en el Salón Copacabana del
Hotel Conrad, Punta del Este, desde las 18.30 a las 20:00 hs. Dicho evento contara con destacados oradores
y será la ocasión para la presentación de un corto documental sobre el tema, contando con la participación de
un coro infantil. El programa detallado será anunciado y estará disponible durante la Conferencia.

Lobby del Salón Copacabana.

Children Health and Persistent Organic Pollutants
Protecting our Most Precious Resource:
4 May 2005 – Punta del Este
One of the main objectives of the Stockholm Convention is to protect human health and the environment from
the harmful impact of persistent organic pollutants. In Articles 7 and 10 the Convention refers to the potential
effects on vulnerable population groups, especially for children. In view of the above, the Ministry of Housing,
Territorial Planning and Environment of Uruguay, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the
Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS), are organising a special event on the vulnerability of
children and on the need to take concerted action.
It is with pleasure that we invite you to participate at the side event on “Children health and POPs Protecting our most Precious Resource: enabling children to secure a safer, cleaner and healthier
world “ on 4 May 2005, at the Copacabana Showroom, Hotel Conrad, Punta del Este, from 18:30 to
20:00. The programme includes statements by distinguished speakers and authorities, the presentation of a
short documentary and the lively participation of a children's choir. A detailed programme will be circulated at
the time of the Conference.
