La utilización, hacia los años 1960, de la noción de concepción –«condición de emergencia,
proceso de elaboración, acción, método, resultado, objeto» (Sautereau 1993)– extendió las
posibilidades analíticas de la investigación en arquitectura dirigiéndola hacia el proyecto.
Desde entonces, diversas disciplinas han integrado como objeto de estudio la concepción
arquitectónica. Sin embargo, la parcialidad de sus posiciones epistemológicas (Arellano-Lechuga 2007) ha impedido las más de las veces dar cuenta del entrecruzamiento socio-físico
característico de la Arquitectura como lugar (Muntañola 1998); ya sea desde el externalismo, con explicaciones sociales de la edificación, o desde el internalismo con interpretaciones de la arquitectura como instrumento de transformación social o incluso como objeto
formal autónomo.
Nuestra propuesta para evitar estas rupturas epistemológicas es dar cuenta del proyecto arquitectónico como una coexistencia espacio-temporal de una multitud de entidades concretas (Latour et Yaneva 2008) a observar empíricamente (Callon 1996) –en la línea de
las recientes etnografías de Yaneva (2009a-b) y Houdart (2009)– y a interpretar desde la
filosofía constructiva (Medina 2000).
De esta manera, el objetivo de la investigación empírica y del trabajo de reconstrucción tecnográfica es la comprensión de la arquitectura como un vasto sistema cultural: la constante
configuración de una trama de prácticas y entornos materiales, simbólicos y organizativos
que permiten el habitar.
In the 1960’s, the notion of design –“emergence condition, elaboration process, action, method,
result, object” (Sautereau 1993)– enabled to extend the analytical possibilities on architectural
research by directing it towards the architectural project.
Since then, different disciplines have adopted the design process as an object of study. However,
most of the time their partial epistemological positions (Arellano-Lechuga 2007) have obstructed
the characteristic socio-physic entanglement of Architecture as Place (Muntañola 1998); either
externally, by explaining socially the buildings, or internally, interpreting architecture as an instrument for social transformation or even as an autonomous formal object.
Our proposal to avoid these epistemic ruptures is to make an account of architectural projects as
a coexistence of various concrete entities (Latour and Yaneva 2008) to be observed empirically
(Callon 1996) –following the recent steps of Yaneva’s (2009a-b) and Houdart’s (2009) ethnographies– and interpreted with the tools of constructive philosophy (Medina 2000).
The aim of this proposal is the comprehension, by the means of empirical research and reconstructive technography, of architecture as a wide cultural system: a constant configuration of a wove
of practices and material, symbolic and organizational frameworks that enables the existence of
the habitat.
