espiritual de Jesucristo, su amor al Padre, su conocimiento
de Dios era incompatible totalmente con aquella
alteración substancial del templo. En ese templo,
espléndido y precioso, era necesario purificar todo aquel
mercado surgido alrededor de Dios y de su culto para que,
ciertamente, el hombre pudiera allí acercarse a la
Divinidad.
DEDICACIÓN DE LA BASÍLICA DE LETRÁN
PRIMERA LECTURA: Ez 47,1-2.8-9.12

REFLEXIÓN
Celebramos la "dedicación de la Basílica de Letrán", la
catedral del Papa y, en cierto modo, la madre de todas las
Iglesias del mundo. Conviene tener presente este día para
meditar en el misterio y la bendición que significa el
templo, y así lo sugieren las lecturas de hoy: el templo
renovado de Jerusalén, según la visión de Ezequiel; el
templo que forman los creyentes, según la doctrina del
apóstol; el templo que es Cristo mismo según nos enseña
el Evangelio.
Evidentemente, el templo es un lugar de encuentro del
hombre con Dios. El templo es tan antiguo como el
hombre. En todas las civilizaciones, en todas las culturas
de las que tenemos noticia, aparece, con toda certeza, el
templo. Es lógico. El hombre es un ser sociable y
sensible: necesita colectiva y materialmente tener un lugar
donde acercarse a Dios, un lugar en el que su Dios reciba
culto y donde puede pacífica y serenamente hablar con Él.
Los judíos amaban su templo con verdadera devoción. Era
la morada tangible y visible de Yavé, el lugar donde se
guardaba el Arca de la Alianza, el sitio en el que se siente
protegido; es la expresión tangible de la nube, signo
concreto de la presencia Divina en el monte, o de la
tienda, en el duro caminar por el desierto. El judío, en
aquel templo de Jerusalén, se encontraba seguro, tenía la
absoluta certeza de que Dios moraba en él y de que allí
sería escuchada su oración. Toda esta realidad no fue
obstáculo para que el templo se hubiera prostituido
ofreciendo un espectáculo que arrancó a Jesucristo una
actitud francamente airada. Rodaron por el suelo las
mesas de los cambistas y huyeron espantados bueyes y
ovejas ante el látigo tronante del Señor. La grandeza
Son importantes los templos, pero lo que
verdaderamente tiene importancia son las personas que
acuden a ellos. Es muy posible, que aquellos mercaderes
y cambistas que tan asiduamente frecuentaban el templo
no se encontraron allí con Dios, y es que para encontrar
a Dios en la intimidad del templo es preciso tener la
disposicion interior para escucharlo.
We celebrate the “dedication of the Lateran Basilica ", the
cathedral of the Pope and, in a sense, the mother of all
churches in the world. It should be noted this day to
meditate on the mystery and blessing which refer to the
temple, and today's readings suggest: the renewed temple
of Jerusalem, according to the vision of Ezekiel; the
temple that are the believers, according to the doctrine of
the apostle; the church which is Christ himself as the
Gospel teaches.
Obviously, the temple is a place of encounter between
man and God. The temple is as old as man. In all
civilizations, in all cultures of which we are aware, the
temple appears, certainly. It's logical. Man is a sociable
and emotional being: collective and material need to have
a place to be closer to God, a place to worship Him and
where he can peacefully and calmly talk to him. The Jews
loved his temple with true devotion. It was tangible and
visible dwelling of Yahweh, where the Ark of the
Covenant was kept, the place where they feel protected; It
is a tangible expression of the cloud, a concrete sign of
the divine presence of the mountain, or the tent, of the
hard walking through the desert. The Jew, at the time of
temple in Jerusalem, he feel secure, had the absolute
certainty that God dwelt in it and that his prayer there
would be heard. This reality did not prevent that the
temple became prostituted by offering a show that Jesus
Christ started an openly annoyed attitude. They rolled on

The spiritual greatness of Jesus Christ, his love for the
Father, his knowledge of God was totally incompatible
with that substantial alteration of the temple. In this

all that market emerged about God and his worship for
which indeed man could approach deity.
Temples are important, but what really matters are the
people who come to them. It is quite possible that those
merchants and money changers who so assiduously
frequented the temple did not encounter God, and that is
why to encounter God in the intimacy of the temple we
must have an interior disposition to listen.
