Dear Parents:
Just as each child has his/her own unique personality; each child also has preferred learning
conditions. While most children can thrive in any type of classroom, we want to help you make
the best decision for your child. Parents know the most about their children, and this brief list
gives parents the opportunity to think specifically about their own child’s unique strengths. We
hope it is helpful for you.
PLEASE NOTE:
Wisconsin has adopted the Common Core State Standards being used by most states in the U.S.
This means that all of Wisconsin’s school districts are now using the same curriculum goals for
each grade level. For example, what a child is supposed to learn in 6th grade is the same in
every school in the state. These learning goals are called standards and benchmarks, and they
are now the same in every school. What is different from school to school is the way in which
the curriculum is taught; this is called the delivery method or type of curriculum. How the
children will learn the material is different and distinguishes one school from another. What this
means is that every Ripon child in, for example, 6th grade will learn the same material, but in
different ways depending upon which school the child attends. Because the learning goals are
the same for all students in a grade level, moving from a charter school to a traditional school—
or vice versa—can be done since it is just a change in the classroom style and not a change in
the substance of the grade level material.
It is important to stress that one Ripon school is not better or worse than another Ripon school. All
the students are learning the same content and will take the same state tests. They are simply
learning the same material in different ways because we understand that students learn in
different ways.
Attached is a brief list of some key differences between Catalyst Charter Middle School and
Ripon Middle School. Please remember that most children learn well in different types of
classrooms, and that very few children need a specific type of classroom to learn well.
Additionally, in the course of a school year most classrooms have all the characteristics in the
attached list, so the differences between teachers, classrooms, and schools is really just a
matter of degree—for example, all teachers provide explanations and demonstrations but
some types of schools use this approach more often than other types of schools. We are
confident in Ripon that all our students receive a high quality education regardless of the school
they attend. Finally, please note that federal law requires that a lottery be held if more students
apply for a charter school than there are seats available while state law requires that school
districts provide space for all students who enroll in a regular school. Enrollment is based on
those laws.

Siendo padres de familia de un estudiante en Ripon significa que tiene opciones. Así como cada niño o
niña tiene su propia y única personalidad; cada niño(a) también tiene sus condiciones preferidas de
aprendizaje. Mientras que la mayoría de los niños pueden sobresalir en cualquier tipo de salón de clase,
nosotros queremos ayudarle hacer la mejor decisión para su niño(a). Los padres conocen mucho más
sobre sus niños, y en esta lista breve se les da a los padres la oportunidad de pensar específicamente
sobre las fortalezas únicas de sus propios niños. Esperamos que esto sea de ayuda para usted.
POR FAVOR NOTE: Wisconsin ha adoptado las Normas Comunes Fundamentales del Estado (Common
Core State Standards) las cuales están siendo usadas por la mayoría de los estados en los Estados
Unidos. Esto significa que todos los distritos escolares de Wisconsin están usando ahora las mismas metas
del plan de estudios en cada nivel de grado. Por ejemplo, lo que cada niño(a) se supone que aprende
en 6º. Grado es lo mismo en cada escuela en el estado. Estas metas de aprendizaje son llamadas
estándares y puntos de referencia, y ahora es lo mismo en cada escuela. Lo que es diferente de escuela
a escuela es la manera como se enseña el currículo; el cual se llama método de entrega o tipo de
currículo. Cómo los niños aprenderán el material es diferente y se distingue de una escuela a otra. Lo
que esto significa es que cada niño(a) en Ripon, por ejemplo, de sexto grado aprenderá el mismo
material, pero en diferente manera dependiendo de la escuela al que el niño(a) asista. Ya que las
metas de aprendizaje son las mismas para todos los estudiantes en un nivel de grado, yendo de una
escuela chárter a una escuela tradicional o viceversa. Esto se puede hacer ya que es solo un cambio
en el estilo de clase y no un cambio de substancia del material del nivel de grado.
Todos los estudiantes están aprendiendo el mismo contenido y tomarán los mismos exámenes del
estado. Ellos están simplemente aprendiendo el mismo material en diferentes maneras porque
entendemos que los estudiantes aprenden en diferentes maneras.
Adjunto encontrará una lista breve sobre algunas diferencias claves entre Catalyst Charter Middle
School y Ripon Middle School. Por favor recuerde que la mayoría de los niños y niñas aprenden bien en
diferentes tipos de clases, y que muy pocos niños necesitan un tipo de clase específica para aprender
bien. Además, en el curso del año escolar, la mayoría de las clases tienen todas las características en la
lista adjunta, así que las diferencias entre maestros, clases, y escuelas es realmente una cuestión grado.
Por ejemplo, todos los maestros proveen explicaciones y demostraciones, pero algunos tipos de escuelas
