My schedule is too hard!
In order to practice your Spanish this year, you have gotten an e-mail pen pal. You
complain to him/her about the six (four) classes you take at school, and get an e-mail in
reply in which you read about your pen pal’s schedule. Write an e-mail in response in
which you compare/contrast the schedule. Be sure to include your opinion as to which is
better/worse and why.
Primer correo electrónico (First e-mail)
Mi horario este año es horrible. Tengo seis clases y son muy difíciles. La primera,
español, empieza a las 7:20 y termina a las 8:15. La verdad, es mi clase favorita porque a
veces cantamos y hablamos mucho. Pero las tres próximas son horribles. Son inglés,
historia y ciencias de la salud. Sólo leemos y escribimos todos los días y los profesores
son muy estrictos. Entonces tengo biología con un laboratorio donde cortamos cerdos
muertos – ¡qué asco! – y últimamente la clase de orquesta. Toco el violín, muy bien en
mi opinión, pero los otros estudiantes de la clase son horribles. Me duelen los oídos al
final de la clase. Sólo tenemos cinco minutos para ir de clase a clase. ¡No tengo
suficiente tiempo para ir a mi armario! Tampoco tenemos suficiente tiempo para el
almuerzo, sólo 20 minutos. No sé si voy a sobrevivir este horario. ¿Cómo es tu día
escolar ? Sé que no puede ser tan horrible como el mío.

My schedule this year is horrible. I have six classes and they are very difficult. The first,
Spanish, starts at 7:20 and ends at 8:15. Truthfully, it is my favorite class because
sometimes we sing and we talk a lot. But the next three are horrible. They are English,
history, and health. We only read and write every day and the teachers are very strict.
Then I have biology with a lab where we dissect dead pigs – how gross – and last is
orchestra class. I play the violin very well in my opinion, but the others in the class are
horrible. My ears hurt at the end. We only have five minutes to go from one class to the
next. I don’t have enough time to go to my locker ! Also we only have twenty minutes
for lunch. I don’t know if I am going to survive or not. What is your school day like ? I
know it can’t be as awful as mine.

Mi día en la escuela es muy largo. La escuela no está muy lejos de mi casa y por eso
camino con mis amigas Gloria y Susana. Tengo muchos libros en mi mochila porque
tengo muchas clases. Tengo doce clases diferentes. La primera clase, la clase de
matemáticas, es a las ocho los lunes, los miércoles y los viernes. Los martes y los jueves
tengo la clase de historia. Las otras clases son inglés, francés, educación física, química,

biología, arte, geografía de México y computadoras. No tengo todas las clases todos los
días, por supuesto. Tengo clases por la mañana hasta las doce. Voy a casa para
almorzar. Después del almuerzo voy a la escuela a las cuatro por dos horas más.
Los profesores son muy estrictos. Todos llevamos uniforme. No llevamos gorras ni
joyas. Tenemos mucha tarea todas las noches pero me gusta estudiar y siempre saco
buenas notas.

My day at school is very long. The school isn’t very far from my home and I go there on
foot with my friends Gloria and Susana. I have many books in my backpack because I
have many classes. I have twelve different classes. The first is at 8. I have math on
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, but on Tuesdays and Thursdays I have history. The
other classes are English, French, P. E., chemistry, biology, art, Mexican geography and
computers. I don’t have all the classes every day, of course. I have classes in the
morning till noon. I go home for lunch. After lunch I return to school at four for two
more hours. The teachers at school are very strict. We wear uniforms. We don’t wear
caps or jewelry. We have a lot of homework every night but I like to study and I always
get good grades.
