The running of the bulls is the main event of the Sanfermines and makes the fiesta a spectacle that
would be unimaginable in any other place in the world. A complex cultural activity of deep
historical roots demands to be understood. Formally was the transfer of the bulls through the
streets to bullring as a necessary part of the bullfight. Nowadays we conceive the running of the
bulls as a secular tradition that mixes rite, risk and emotion. One of the key aspects is its intrinsic
danger, but regardless the voluntarily assumed risk of death or injury, the number of risky
situations seems to increase as time goes by. It seems clear that the number of injured have begun
to increase at the same rate that this event has become an ever-bigger spectacle for an evergreater number of people. The purpose of this research is to know the reality of this event. Thus,
we expose a diagnostic after checking all the features of this event. Finally, we present a discussion
through the viability of the running of the bulls in the XXI century.
