Program(TAP)Financial Aid Update
Important Information about your eligibility for financial
aid at Hostos Community College  If you are unable to
comply with the items listed below, you will not be eligible
to recieve TAP financial aid
Ability To Benefit (ATB)
Students affected are freshman, transfer
students and continuing students who:
• Have a diploma from a foreign High School
• Applied to receive TAP for the first time in or after the summer or fall of 2006
• Have not earned a GED
Students must meet the Ability To Benefit (ATB)
standard in one of two ways:
1. Obtaining a GED: Contact Adult & Continuing Education Department in Room B-208 or
call Mr. Angel Maldonado at 718-518-6743 for more information
2. Achieving the minimum cut scores on the Ability To Benefit {ATB} tests:

Students can drop by the Admissions Satellite to pick up a test appointment, come to
500 Grand Concourse room B-102.
Hostos Academic Learning
Center (HALC)
To assist students achieve ATB minimum cut off scores, the HALC offers self-guided
tutorials geared to prepare students to retake the Writing Objective, the COMPASS
Reading and COMPASS M1 exams. Self-guided tutorials are offered during both the
fall and spring semesters. For more information about self-guided tutorials, visit us in
room C-350 or call us at 718-518-6624

para pago de Matrícula
Aviso importante sobre su elegibilidad para ayuda financiera en el colegio comunal De Hostos. Si no puede cumplir con los siguientes requisitos, no podra ser elegible para recibir la ayuda financiera del TAP
Los estudiantes afectados son los de nuevo ingreso, de
traslado o que ya han estado con nosotros en Hostos y:
• hayan obtenido un diploma de una escuela superior de un país extranjero.
• hayan solicitado TAP por primera vez en o después del verano u otoño 2006
• no hayan obtenido un diploma equivalente de Escuela Superior(“G.E.D.”).
HALC
Para ser elegible para el TAP, deberá llenar los requisitos que prueben que usted cumple
con los estándares de “ATB/ Ability To Benefit” (Habilidad para beneficiarse):
1. Obtener un diploma equivalente de Escuela Superior (GED).

Las citas para dichos exámenes pueden ser solicitadas visitando la Oficina de
Admisiones en el 500 Grand Concurse, Salón B 102.
Hostos Academic Learning Center (HALC)
Para ayudar a los estudiantes a completar los requisitos de los exámenes de ATB, el “Hostos Academic Learning Center (HALC)” ofrecerá guías tutoriales en las áreas del “COMPASS” de Escritura, Lectura y el “COMPASS Matemáticas1.” Dichas guías tutoriales estarán disponibles en los semestres de otoño y primavera.
