PALABRAS DE BIENVENIDA
Autoridades, colegas y amigos:
Es para mí un doble placer darles la bienvenida a este II Seminario de
Investigación Museológica en los países de habla portuguesa y española, y
hacerlo desde el Aula Magna de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de
Buenos Aires. En primer término, como presidente del ICOM Argentina y en
nombre de su Comisión Directiva, acompañando al ICOFOM-ICOM que,
conjuntamente con la Universidad de Oporto, realiza estas importantes
jornadas por iniciativa de su presidente, Lic. Nelly Decarolis y de la Dra. Alice
Semedo, destacada representante de la Universidad de Porto. En segundo
término, porque es muy significativo para mí que el acto de apertura de tan
importante encuentro internacional se lleve a cabo en esta casa de altos
estudios de la cual formo parte.
A la luz de los acelerados cambios que se han manifestado en la sociedad en
el último siglo y más específicamente en las últimas décadas, las
investigaciones sobre las diferentes vertientes que conforman el que hacer de
la museología contemporánea son un tema de investigación y estudio,
alentado desde el ICOM a través de sus Comités Nacionales e
Internacionales, en pos de ofrecer un marco teórico adecuado al quehacer del
museo.
Como instituciones al servicio de la sociedad, los museos han debido reforzar
en los últimos años su capacidad para cumplir con las múltiples demandas
sociales que su propia dinámica les ha impuesto. Cada vez es mayor el
número de especialistas en diversas disciplinas que forman parte de la
estructura permanente o temporaria de los museos; sin embargo, no
encontramos muchas investigaciones en las que el museo y la museología
sean el objeto de estudio.
¿Han logrado los museo cumplir con su rol social? ¿Cómo se comprometen
nuestras instituciones frente a los cambios de la sociedad? El museo, ¿se ha
convertido, realmente, en un espacio provocativo? ¿Cuáles han sido los
resultados? Sus acciones ¿han sido instrumentos de cambio?
Seguramente, durante el II Encuentro, éstas y muchas otras preguntas
encontrarán respuesta o nos invitarán a reflexionar sobre los lineamientos
de futuras investigaciones.
A todos, mis mejores deseos para que este II Seminario se constituya en una
exitosa tribuna de reflexión museal.

Authorities, colleagues and friends attending this meeting:
It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to this Second Seminar on
Museological Research for Portuguese and Spanish speaking countries at the
Aula Magna of the School of Law, Universidad de Buenos Aires. Firstly, I greet
you as President of ICOM Argentina and on behalf of its Executive Committee,
supporting ICOFOM-ICOM that -together with the University of Porto- is
organizing these important sessions at the initiative of its President, Nelly
Decarolis, and of Alice Semedo, distinguished representative of the University
of Porto. Secondly, since I am a part of this University, it is very important for
me to open such a significant international meeting at this venue.
Given the very quick changes that have taken place in society in the last
century and, more specifically, in the last few decades, research within the
different lines of contemporary museology is encouraged by ICOM through its
National and International Committees, with a view to offering an appropriate
theoretical framework for museal activities.
Museums are institutions that are willing to serve society and as such, in the
last few years, they have reinforced their capacity to meet the many social
demands imposed upon them. There are more and more experts participating
in the different disciplines that make up the permanent or temporary structure
of museums; however, we do not come across much research work in which
museums and museology are the object of analysis.
Have museums managed to fulfill their social role? How do our institutions
undertake their commitments vis-à-vis changes in society? Have museums
indeed become provocative spaces? Which have been the outcomes? Are
their actions instruments of change?
Certainly, during this Second Meeting, these and many more queries will be
answered and, furthermore, we will invite you to think about the guidelines for
future research work.
I wish you all the best and hope that this Second Seminar turns into a
successful fórum for reflecting on museum-related topics.
