Uni 0: Preliminary unit
Description: This is Unit 1 of 7, an introductory unit. This is a 2-week unit. Students will learn
how to explore the concept of recognizing cognates. Students will identify places that speak
Spanish and familiar names and places in a video.

Description: It introduces students to expressing their personalities, interests, and social
interactions while exploring key AP/IB themes such as identity, community, daily life, and

Unit 2 : Social Connections / Las conexiones sociales
Description: Exploring how individuals relate to others through family, friendships, interests,
and personal traits. Students will learn how to interact with family and friends. Students will
discover pastimes in the target language culture and examine characteristics of typical
families in that culture. They will learn to describe their own family as well as compare and
contrast their interests and routines with those of the target culture. Additionally, students will
learn to make plans with others, express interests, and ask peers about theirs.

Unit 3: Education / La educación en el mundo
Description: Students will learn about how schools are similar and different around the world.
Students will exchange and present information to describe, inform, compare, give advice,
and express opinions about schools and education in their own culture and the target
culture.

Unit 4: Vacationing / ¡Vamos de vacaciones!
Description: Students will be able to talk about plans for vacation time, including activities,
places, and clothing. They will be able to plan clothing choices based on the weather and
various activities.

Unit 5: My Health / Mi salud
Description: Students will learn how to talk about common ailments or injuries related to
body parts, and first aid and medicines taken at home. Students will talk about healthy habits
and suggestions for feeling better.

Description: students will learn about the role food plays in the Spanish culture. The
