S URELOCK COMPONENTS 1. SCOPE 1.1 This specification applies to all Company Sure Lock components. 2. SAFETY FACTORS 2.1 The loads stated below reflect the 4 to 1 Safety Factor and must be multiplied by 1.33 to obtain the 3 to 1 Safety Factor. 3. DESIGN INFORMATION 3.1 Standard -- 3 lengths [1 m, 2 m, 3 m - page S-4 ] with a 12 in screw extension and 4 to 1 safety factor. The allowable loads at brace spacings in two directions is a maximum of 4500 lb (with 2 m brace spacing - which is most typical), 6840 lb (with 1 m brace spacing), 5500 lb (with 1.5 m brace spacing ), 2000 lb (with 3 m brace spacing). Standards have rosettes at 0.5 meters on center that accept connections at 8 places around the rosette. 3.2 Ledger -- 9 Lengths [6 ft, 8 ft, 0.65 m, 1.07 m, 1.15 m, 1.57 m, 1.63 m, 2.13 m, 3.05 m - page S-14] with a maximum allowable load of 2000 lb per end. Typically installed at 2 meters in height in both directions. (The 6 ft and 8 ft lengths are for bleachers only) 3.3 Double Ledger -- 4 lengths [1.57 m, 1.63 m, 2.13 m, 3.05 m - page S-18] designed for load of 50 PSF in bays of 2.13 m (350 PLF) 3.4 Heavy Duty Ledger -- 3 lengths [1.57 m, 1.63 m, 2.13 m - page S-20]. Designed for 3000 lb load anywhere on them. 3.5 Cal-guard Rail -- 5 lengths [.65 m, 1.15 m, 1.63 m, 2.13 m, 3.05 m, - page S-24 ]. Handrail is designed to raise its top 5.20 in above the centerline of the rosette so that it will meet the California OSHA requirement of being 42 in to 45 in above the top of the planks. Meets California OSHA requirement of 200 lb force in any direction. The original design to drawing 40322 was light duty and therefore not able to be used as a safety tie-off point. It has been superceded by drawing 134xx, which is sufficient enough to be used as a tie-off point. 3.6 Volume 2 Section 2.1 Diagonal Brace -- 7 lengths [1.15 m, 1.57 m, 1.63 m, 2.13 m, 3.05 m, 6 ft, 8 ft - page S-16 ] that extend from ledger level to ledger level (2 m). 28MAR97 SureLock Systems Scaffolding Page 1 Sure Lock Components 3.7 Base collar -- [page S-26] 9 in high, where no screw adjustment is required at base. (Gain 6.45 in in height) 3.8 Screw Jack -- [page S-28] allows 18 in adjustment at 4500 lb and lesser loads at extension to 24 in. See Table page 29. 3.9 Swivel Base Jack -- [page S-30] allows 12 in adjustment at 4500 lb load. 180 degrees rotation in one plane, connect to base to prevent slipping at greater than 15 degrees. Less load at greater extension. 3.10 Side Bracket -- 3 sizes [page S-31] that accept 1, 2 or 3 planks. Designed for 400 PLF. 3.11 Stairway -- 2 m [page S-41] that connects to rosettes at 2 m in height and spans 2.13 m. Fits into 1/2 of 2.13 m wide bay. Designed for 100 PSF of horizontal projection. There are ten treads that are 2 ft 6 in long by 9-1/2 in wide. Uses diagonal braces as top and mid handrails. 3.12 Coupling pin -- [page S-11] is designed to couple standards together and does not add any height to system. A fully loaded ledger can produce up to 2,500 lb-in (4150 Nm) secondary bending under maximum allowable loading, therefore caution should be exercised when combining heavily loaded ledgers with heavily loaded standards. Other sources of secondary bending include side bracket loading. Use the axial load - secondary bending interaction diagrams (Figures 1 & 2) for determining the effects of secondary bending to the Sure Lock standard. A sample calculation is provided to illustrate their use. Use Figure 1 when the maximum Factor of Safety is 4:1 and Figure 2 when the maximum F.S. is 3:1 The overall factor of safety and allowable axial loading declines as per Figures 1 & 2 with the introduction of secondary bending. Volume 2 Section 2.1 28MAR97 SureLock Systems Scaffolding Page 51 C ANTILEVER SCAFFOLD 1.0 SCOPE 1.1 This specification applies to all cantilevered scaffolds, or members that are cantilevered from a scaffold, that are furnished to others by Company employees in loose or erected condition when the Company has suggested a layout and/or assembled a configuration. 2.0 SPECIFICATION 2.1 All cantilever applications must have a drawing and assembly and dismantling instructions provided with them, that were completed by a Company Engineer and approved by a Company Professional Engineer. 2.2 The next three pages are drawings of System Scaffold with cantilevered work platforms that may be used for standard applications without engineering approval, provided that their load and dimensional limitations are adhered to.
