REV. 4.0.0 Page 4/6 GENERAL INFORMATION The X.TEST UPGRADE software is used for the upgrade of the following firmware programs, for all ISA test sets: 1. FWH2, that is resident into the instruments: UTS.1; ART/3, ART/100, UTB.1, DRTS, DRTS.3. 2. FWH6, that is resident into the instrument DRTS.6. 3. T1000_VXXX, that is resident into the instrument T/1000, where XXX is the revision number. 4. T3000AAA_VXXX, that is resident into the instrument T/2000 and T3000, where AAA is the language: there are different files for different languages. 5. CBA1000_BASE_VXXX and CBA1000_LAN_VYYY, that are resident into the instrument CBA1000: BASE controls the test set; LAN includes all languages. The program runs under WINDOWS and is an utility of TDMS. The X.TEST UPGRADE software here described corresponds to the RELEASE 4.0.0. The main change with respect to former versions is the addition of the T series and of CBA1000. Note: Windows and DOS are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. 2. USER’S GUIDE Before starting the program, the PC should be connected to the instrument to be upgraded. To start the program, click on the UTLILITIES button of TDMS. then, select Upgrade, after the test set has been connected. The following window is displayed. DOC. MSE20038 REV. 4.0.0 Page 5/6 The program checks for the connection; as the connection is established, the drawing on bottom right shows a closed connector. If the program does not succeed to connect, the following error message is displayed. In this instance, check for the connection and press the OK button: the message disappears and the connector closes. In case the connection is impossible, exit the program and start over again. On the top right is displayed a key: if pressed, the program asks for a password. This key is for internal use only, and is not to be used for the upgrade. Below the key the program displays: . Serial COM port setting: it is (19200, E, 8, 1) or (57600, E, 8, 1); . Instrument serial number: it is the code of the instrument; . Instrument model: it is the type of instrument connected; . Firmware version: it is the revision number of the resident program. DOC. MSE20038 REV. 4.0.0 Page 6/6 The program has three keys in all: File open, Transfer, Exit. To upgrade the program, follow these steps: . First of all, download from the ISA WEB site the last firmware revision of your test set. Take care NOT TO MISTAKE THE TYPE OF TEST SET, as otherwise some severe damage could occur. Copy the .EPG file into the C/XTEST/UPGRADE directory; . Start Upgrade; . Press the Open file pushbutton: the common dialogue window is opened; . Double click on the file name: the common dialogue window is closed; on top left the program resumes the following data: .. Serial COM port setting; .. Instrument serial number: it is the code of the instrument that can be upgraded; .. Instrument model: it is the type of instrument connected; .. Firmware version: it is the revision number of the new program; .. Firmware date: it is the date of the firmware revision; .. Frames into EPG file: it is number of frames to be transferred: 256. . Press the Transfer button. The central scroll bar window displays the progress of the upgrade. There are two steps: transfer data first, whose progress is displayed by the upper bar, transfer % level; then test of transferred data and data replacement, whose progress is displayed by the lower bar, updating % level. This operation takes a time that depends upon the type of P.C. used: usually from 5 (newer test sets) to 15 minutes (older test sets). As all data are transferred, the green light of the instrument turns off; then, after some time, it turns on again. This marks the end of the operation inside the instrument to be upgraded. . At the end, if everything is ok, the program displays a message of upgrade completed, and the test set has the ON light turned on. . After OK, the program connects again with the instrument and displays on the top right the upgraded revision number: this confirms that the operation has been successfully completed. In this instance, press OK: the program closes up. Power off and on the instrument in order to start the normal operation. . If there is some problem during the data transfer, a message informs about the type of problem encountered. In this instance, power off the instrument, exit Upgrade and start over again. If the upgrade is still impossible, please refer to the test set user’s manual. DO NOT POWER OFF THE INSTRUMENT DURING DATA UPGRADE (SECOND BAR IN PROGRESS): THIS COULD RENDER THE INSTRUMENT NO MORE USABLE. WOULD THIS EVENT OCCUR BY ACCIDENT, THE UPGRADE SEQUENCE SHOULD BE REPEATED.
