CIRO ALEGRÍA BAZAN Ciro Alegría Bazan was a Peruvian writer, politician and journalist. He was born on November 4, 1909, in near Huamanchuco, Peru. He is considered one of the greatest representatives of the indigenous narrative of the 20th century. In his youth he studied at the San Juan school in Trujillo and later Philosophy and Letters at the university of the same city. In 1928 he worked as a police reporter where he published avant-garde poems for the first time. He published his first novel in 1935 titled "Golden Serpent", in which he expressed the life of some rafters from the jungle of Peru. In 1940 he finished writing his novel "The World is Wide and Foreign" with which he won a Latin American novel contest in the United States. The following years he dedicated himself to teaching at universities, writing in journals, continuing to achieve achievements. Finally, he died on February 17, 1967, from a heart attack.
