speech?
Reported speech
We use reported or indirect speech when we want to
repeat what someone else said.

The exact words someone
said. We used quotation
marks.
Someone tell us what
someone else said. We
don’t use quotation
marks
Lisa said “I love dancing”

Reporting verb
Reporting clause
That is often omitted, especially in everyday English
Homero said he was hungry
So, how do you use it?
Lisa said, “ I love your earrings”
Reported speech
● Lisa said she loved my earrings
Change the tense
Present simple -> Past simple
Change the pronoun
● I -> She
● Your -> My
From present simple to
Lisa said, “ I love your earrings”
Lisa said she loved my earrings
Past simple
We also changed the pronouns!
Reporting verbs

Irregular verbs
Say -> said.
Tell-> told.
Note: When using told you MUST say the person you’re referring to.
Examples: He told ME, I told YOU.
Personal and possessive adjectives
Possessive adjectives are used to show possession or ownership of
something.
PERSONAL

The possessive adjective needs to
agree with the possessor.
Examples
● My car is very old.
● Her boyfriend is very friendly.
● Their homework is on the table.

Past simple
There are two types of verbs
REGULAR
“I lived abroad for
ten years”
IRREGULAR
“I went to the
cinema yesterday”
Past simple- Regular verbs
We form the past simple of most regular verbs by
adding -ed to the main verb.
For example:
● Play→Played
● Type→Typed
● Listen→Listened
● Love→Loved
If the verb ends
in e, just add d.
Past simple- Irregular verbs
For irregular verbs the spelling in the simple past tense is
totally different, look at these examples:
