Research4Life MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on:
Global Access to Research in Health, Food and Agriculture,
Environment, Innovation and Law - Research4Life
26 April – 28 May 2021
Walk-through Guide
The Research4Life MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) is coordinated by the Information Training and Outreach Centre for Africa (ITOCA).
Research4Life is a public-private partnership of WHO, FAO, UNEP, WIPO, ILO, Cornell and Yale Universities, the International Association of STM
Publishers. It is the collective name for five programmes – Hinari, AGORA, OARE, ARDI and GOALI – that provide developing countries with free or
low-cost access to academic and professional peer reviewed content online.
The course area is reserved only for registered users and you can access it with your credentials (username and password), which have been sent
to you in the acceptance email.
Navigation Block and the Central area
Navigation panel allows you to move between
the units and sub-sections. Main course area
has the welcome section which appears in
every unit on top of the page. In the central
area, you see the course structure, grouped in
units. Each unit is activated on the “available
from” date as indicated in the example on the
left of your screen. As the units get activated,
they will appear in the navigation block, under
the current course.
Course Calendar and Upcoming Events
The calendar helps you to keep track
of upcoming due dates, events (e.g.
activation of lessons, assessments
and tests, tutorials, webinars). Click
on the darker colour cells to see
more details about them. An example
of a monthly view is shown in the
images. You can follow the event on
the “upcoming events” block. It will
show the dates of each unit starts,
exam dates, and other upcoming
events organized in the course (e.g.,
online tutorial times, live webinars,
assignment). If you click on the “go
to calendar”, it will give you a
calendar view by month. Simply
choose the month in the “Monthly
view” block to see the full month
calendar.
Timing of the Events and Using Time Converter
All the events in the course are offered in Central Africa
Time (CAT) zone. You can take Pretoria (South Africa) as a
comparison to your local time. To find out when the
course event is at your local time, we recommend you to
use a time converter.
An example of local times in Addis Ababa and Accra
against Pretoria at 11:00 CAT is given in the figure below.
Simply go to the site (one of the many available time
converter web services), type Pretoria and the time, then
add your city into the box to see it.
Updating Your Profile on the Course Page
