Ultimate Resume Template – College Version Here is your ultimate resume template for a college student, recent college graduate, or very young professional. I recommend keeping your resume to one page. Please format for your word processing tool. The instructions are provided within each section. Simply remove them after reading and proceed. The bullets are mere placeholders and intended to add levity to this rather dull necessity! SUZANNE SORORITY (USE ONLY FIRST AND LAST NAME) 101 College Party Drive • Collegetown, IN 47401 • (812) 555-1234 • [email protected] PROFILE INSTRUCTION: The Profile provides a quick snapshot of you as a person and soon-to-be fulltime professional. Your goal is to provide a one-paragraph, high-level overview of you as a student and part-time worker. This helps employers develop of picture in their minds regarding who you are and what’s forthcoming in your resume. You want to entice them. Keep in mind; this is your “sales copy” of you to get them interested! As you develop your resume, simply remove this italicized text and start creating over the next paragraph. Example: State University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Psychology minor. Held various summer jobs and internships focusing on sales support activities. Served on several university and fraternal committees. Built additional salesrelated capabilities via school fundraising activities and other volunteering efforts. EDUCATION STATE UNIVERSITY, City, State, Year B.S., Marketing; Dean’s List WORK EXPERIENCE INSTRUCTION: The Work Experience section provides a more detailed view of your work experience. You should list your experience in reverse chronological order (i.e., most recent work history on top). It is best to highlight the company name and its location (city, state) as well as the months/years or summers/winters/spring breaks you worked there. 1 | Coaching by Andrew LaCivita | ©2017 milewalk Immediately below the company name, there are a couple of options. You can provide a one- sentence, high-level description of the company to ensure the employer understands the companies’ goals. This is simply for frame of reference, but is helpful especially if you have worked at lesser-known medium or smaller-sized companies. You can follow that sentence with one or two high-level sentences regarding you, your accomplishments, and your role(s) at that company. This is a summary of you at the time you worked for that specific company. Immediately below the company name, provide your title (sales associate, intern, etc.). If your company uses titles that might confuse the prospective employer, you can provide a parenthetical explanation next to the title that highlights your business function. For you, there’s a low likelihood of this, but keep it in mind as you progress as a professional. This general explanation can be helpful when the title is not intuitively obvious. Remove the italics section and simply add your relevant, analogous experience over the sample bullets! MILEWALK, INC. Park Ridge, IL Summer 2016 An executive search firm that does stuff. It’s really good at it too. Summer Intern Performed research activities for various marketing-related areas such as prospect identification, new product ideas, speaking opportunities for the CEO (who’s a really cool guy), and a few other things.
