I’m going to the seaside for a week with my family. Some
family friends are coming with us. We’re going to go
sunbathing on the beach together during the day, and in
the evening we’re going to go jeep-riding! I’m sure we’ll
have fun!
I’m visiting my grandparents in the mountains. My
cousins will be there, too. We’re all going to go hiking in
the mountains and I hope my grandfather will take us
fishing, too. I can’t wait!
I’m going to Italy with my family. We’re staying at a hotel
in Rome. Rome is a beautiful city with many things to do!
We’re going to do a lot of sightseeing during the day,
and in the evening we’re going to go dancing. It’ll be
great!
I’m going sailing with my family in our boat around
Greece. We enjoy water sports so we’re going to go
swimming and snorkelling. I’m so excited!

One Friday afternoon, I was walking the dog around the
lake in the park. Suddenly, I heard a splash and
a woman shouting, “Help! Help!” I turned around and
saw a young boy in the water. Without thinking, I jumped
into the water and quickly pulled the boy out. He was
crying and shivering. The boy’s mother ran towards me
and took the child in her arms. She kept saying, “Thank
you”. Three days later, the story was in the newspaper.
I really felt good.
A few weeks ago, some friends of mine came round to
my house to watch a film. It was a horror film, and it was
quite scary, but we were really enjoying it. Just at the
most frightening moment, my elder brother came home
and turned on all the lights. He said, “Oh, I’ve seen that
film,” and told us what was going to happen. My friends
left angrily. It was all my brother’s fault! He ruined
everything!
I deliver newspapers at weekends to earn some money.
Last Sunday, I made a mistake and everyone got the
wrong newspapers. When I realised my mistake, I knew
I had to tell the owner of the shop. I was sure I’d lose my
job. I was shaking when I got there, but he wasn’t too
angry. He phoned the customers to explain, and then
I went back and delivered the correct papers.

Host:
Some people like having exotic animals as pets. Having
a monkey or an iguana can be fun for you, but what about the
animal? Is it right to keep these kinds of animals as pets?
Listen to two opinions from Luke and Carol.
Luke: Hi, I’m Luke. Not everyone wants to have a dog or a cat as
a pet. They want a more unusual animal, like a snake,
a tarantula or an iguana. If people learn how to take care of
exotic animals properly, they can keep them as pets.
Carol: Hi, I’m Carol. Some people have exotic pets to feel unique,
but they don’t care about the animals’ feelings. Has it got
enough space? Can you give it the right food? Is the climate
right? Is it lonely? I think it’s wrong to keep exotic animals at

Cathy:
I love the snow and the cold. I go skiing in the mountains
every year and I always have a great time. But last year,
when I was in Switzerland, I broke my leg. This completely
ruined my holiday. I had to stay indoors and couldn’t go
anywhere.
Ricky:
I live in a cold country and every year I go abroad to
somewhere hot and sunny. Last summer, I went to the
French Riviera for a week. Every day, I swam and lay on the
beach. I had a lovely, lazy holiday.
Paul:
Last summer, I took my sleeping bag and went backpacking
across Belgium and France. I travelled by bus and train and
walked a lot. I didn’t stay in hotels and I didn’t eat in
restaurants, but I met some interesting people while
I travelled the cheap way.
Sandra: I went by plane to New York in July. The flight took six hours
and my cousin was waiting for me at the airport when I got
there. She took me everywhere – museums, shopping, films
and restaurants. We spent a wonderful time together. It was
a great holiday.

Hello, my name’s Laura and I need your advice about
something that happened with my friend, Beth. Beth stopped
going out with her boyfriend a month ago. Well, I really like
him so when he asked me out, I agreed. But then when Beth
saw me with him, she gave me a really nasty look. I just
didn’t know what to say. So I said we were just studying for
the history exam. I lied because I was so afraid of hurting
her feelings. Of course, she found out the truth and now
she’s not talking to me. She’s my best friend and I don’t
want to lose her. So, what can I do about it?
Dr Ron: Well, Laura, you can’t blame Beth for being angry with you
for lying, but I think the best thing to do is to tell her the truth.
If you talk to her and tell her what really happened, she’ll
probably understand, won’t she? From what you said, she
broke up with her boyfriend before you started seeing him.
Also, I think you should apologise and tell her that you know
you made a mistake. Explain that her feelings are really
important to you. You know, good friends are hard to find,
and I’m sure you feel awful about what you did. If your
friendship is as important to Beth as it is to you, she’ll forgive
you.
