New fashion trends
Here is our report on what clothes are in fashion in Paris and Milan.
This season, girls are wearing long tops in bright colours, with flowery or striped leggings. They
aren’t wearing baggy trousers and tops.
Dresses are back as well this year – but they aren’t long. Girls are wearing short, flowery dresses
in bright colours. If you aren’t warm enough, you can wear a short cardigan with your dress.
What about boys?
Boys are wearing smarter clothes than last year. They aren’t wearing baggy T-shirts or old jeans
anymore. Boys are wearing striped polo shirts with long sleeves and cotton trousers with a belt.
For the beach, boys are wearing more comfortable clothes. They’re wearing long shorts, striped
T-shirts and brightly-coloured baseball boots. Blue and red are the most popular colours.
Is that fashionable enough for you? We think so!

My adventure weekend By Daniel Page
Hi, I’m Daniel. Welcome to my blog! I’m at a camp in Wales,
near Snowdonia.
Day 1: Saturday
We arrived here last night and got up early today. After
breakfast, we cycled to the mountains. The path was very high
and after an hour I was really tired. We stopped for a rest at
the top. Suddenly, a big mountain goat appeared right in front
of us. We jumped on our bikes and cycled back to camp as
fast as possible! After lunch, we went canoeing on the lake.
There were three of us in my canoe. We weren’t very good at
canoeing at the start. But in the end, we learnt to paddle in the
right direction and work together. Then, Nick saw a big bird
and he wanted to take a photo of it. He moved quickly to get
his camera. Suddenly, he fell in the water! Tom and I wanted
to help him, but the canoe turned over and then all three of us
were in the water. It was very cold! Luckily, we were near the
camp so it was easy to swim back. When we arrived, we were
very wet and muddy! Now we’re resting and I’m writing this
blog. Tomorrow, we’re going rock climbing.

Yesterday, I (6) make / made a fantastic movie called ‘The Big Boom’. The characters ran after
each other to different places. In the end, everything exploded, but the crazy cat escaped!

The drop bear
Another mythical Australian animal is the drop bear. It’s a mammal which
looks like a koala or small bear, but it’s the size of a small dog. It’s got a body
covered with dark brown or orange fur. It’s got a larger mouth than a koala,
with lots of sharp teeth and two pointed fangs to help it attack people. It’s
also got powerful legs and sharp claws.
The drop bear is said to live in forest areas on the coast of Australia. It’s
called a drop bear because it lives high up in the trees and drops onto your
head when you aren’t looking. It attacks animals bigger than itself, including
humans!
People believe that drop bears attack more tourists than native Australians,
so perhaps this scary animal was invented to keep out strangers.

Art from rubbish
People all over the world have started to make things from recycled rubbish. Many artists have made
sculptures, statues or other works of art out of recycled materials such as plastic bottles and bags. Other artists
have used pieces of recycled metal to build sculptures like a huge fish.
Useful things are also produced from recycled rubbish, things that are functional. Items of furniture for the
house are made from recycled metal, wood or cardboard. How about a chair which is made from metal
tubes? It may not be very comfortable, but it’s very green.
Clothing is also made from recycled materials. In some countries, T-shirts are produced from recycled plastic
bottles. Some fashion designers have also designed dresses made of plastic bags. Look at the glamorous
example below!

Read and write true or false.
Where is it made?
Look around you. What things can you see that are
made in different countries?
Maybe your computer was made in Japan, your phone
was made in Korea and your notebook was made in
China. Life would be very boring without these things!
Technology
Many technological items are produced in Japan,
including mobile phones, computers and laptops,
but more smartphones are produced in South Korea.
Technology in Japan is more advanced in robotics,
and many human or animal-like robots are made there.
They have even just produced a new robot astronaut!
Food
Many different foods are produced around the world
and sold to different countries, so we can taste the
best of everything! People say that the best coffee
is grown in Brazil and the best chocolate is made
in Switzerland. The most rice is grown in Asian
countries like China and Japan. Olives are grown all
over the Mediterranean. So, in your local supermarket
you can buy foods from all over the world.
1 Life without technology would probably be very boring.

Quiz Time
Do you want to test your knowledge or just play for fun? Then this
is the app for you. It’s free and easy to download to your mobile or
tablet. When you have downloaded the app, tap the menu on the
screen to choose the category of quiz questions you want to answer.
You can find questions on sports (including adventure sports),
animals, geography and technology. Let’s look at few examples.
In the Sports section, this is the first question: If you have a raft, a
wetsuit, a lifejacket and a helmet, what exciting river sport can you
do? And from the Animals section: Which animal comes from Australia, is a small mammal, has got a fierce
jaw, sharp fangs and whiskers?
You score points for each correct answer and you must also beat the clock. If you take too long to think of
your answer, you’ll hear a buzzer and the computer wins the point. So, download the new app now!
1 The app costs nothing / five euros / ten euros.
2 To choose the quiz question category, you touch the icon / tap the screen / click on the screen.
3 There are two / three / four quiz categories.
4 The answer to the sports question in the quiz is swimming / whitewater rafting / water-skiing.
5 The answer to the animals question is kangaroo / platypus / Tasmanian devil.
6 If you don’t answer quickly, the computer will turn off / make a noise / pause.
