A “Tempo” is the speed you play a piece of music.
The tempo is measured by what is called a “Beat”
To know the right speed of the music, you need to discover its beat.
You can find two different Tempo in a Musical Work :
-The Variable Tempo appears when the beat changes.
-The Constant Tempo appears when the beat doesn´t change.

The Constant Tempo appears when the beat doesn´t change.
Composers indicate the speed of the music in two ways:
a)using a number
b)using an Italian word
a)Composers indicate the beat of their musical works using a crotchet and a
number. Exemples:
= 60
in one minute, there are 60 beats.
= 120
in one minute, there are 120 beats
b)Composers indicate the speed using italian words.
Italian words:
Grave, Largo, Lento: for playing very slow.
Adagio: for playing slow.
CONSTANT
TEMPO
Andante: for playing medium tempo.
Allegro: for playing fast
Vivo, Vivace, Presto: for playing very fast.

The metronome tells us the number of beats per minute.
