ABOUT CAIRO
Cairo has the Mysterious Sphinx, the
incredible Pyramids of Giza, glorious
tombs. The sprawling, bustling city of Cairo
is rich with medieval splendor, graceful
minarets and wonderful affordable bazaars.
You can easily go sightseeing. Cairo boasts
one of the tallest structures made by human
hands.
POPULATION
There are around 9,5 million live in the
capital city of Cairo.
CLOTHING
A hat, sunglasses, cool, cotton clothing
and comfortable walking shoes are
essential in the morning. By night a
jacket and sweatshirts are useful.
Casual dress is the norm but modesty
prevails. Egyptians are conservative
when it comes to dress. Women should
at least cover knees and shoulders,
when visiting Holy sites. Men may walk
around in shorts. A daypack is useful
for carrying mineral water bottles.
CURRENCY AND EXCHANGE
LANGUAGE
The first language spoken is Arabic
however most speak English and French.
RELIGION
Islam is practiced by about 86% of the
population, with the majority being Sunni
Muslims. Christians account for some 14%
of the population including Coptic Orthodox,
Coptic Catholic and Protestant.
Local currency is the Egyptian Pound,

require cash so make sure you carry

People of Cairo are kind and friendly people
and you will notice that you are always

some areas city centre you will find
merchants who are trying to sell their
products to tourists. Listen to how you are
approached and reciprocate in kind.
BEST TIME TO VISIT CAIRO
The best time to visit Cairo is from October
to April, especially, if you want to see
Cairo's ancient monuments, such Pyramids
of Giza, Sphinx.
If you don't mind hot weather, then visit
Cairo in June or September. It is extremely
hot in July and August, therefore, reserve a
room with AC and a pool nearby.
SHOPPING
Shops are open from 9.00 to 12.00pm
Monday to Saturday. Government
offices are open from 9.00am to 3.00pm
Saturday to Thursday. Egyptian cotton
is the best cotton in the world. You can
pick up a great range of goods including
cotton, silk and antiques. Egypt is also
popular for gold, the majority is in 18k &
21k and compared with Australia and
Europe it is very cheap. Other good
souvenirs include alabaster, papyrus,
small Pharaonic statues and leather
souvenirs. Carpets are very good
quality. Remember to bargain, it is part
of the process and the initial price
quoted has been inflated to allow for it.
INSURANCE
Travel and health insurance is highly
recommended.
FOOD AND WATER
Tap water is highly chlorinated. Bottled
water is highly recommended for drinking
and it is widely available at all hotels,
restaurants and corner shops. In Cairo
generally the food is safe in good and
elegant restaurants. Exercise normal
caution in regard to cold local-made
drinks or uncooked foods.
TIPPING
Tipping is customary in Cairo for good
service. To give an idea, people tip tour
guides, approx 2€ per person per site.
Baggage boys 1€. They can pack your
bag. Five-star hotels and affluent
restaurants 10 to 15% of the bill.
DOCUMENTATION
Upon arrival in Cairo you must pass a
passport control, a valid passport and a
visa are required for all foreigners
entering Egypt (Cairo). The Egyptian
Embassy in Spain or the General
Consulate in Barcelona or Madrid issue
visas in Spain. Visas can also be
obtained upon arrival in Egypt at the
airport for a payment of Euro15.00 in
cash only. Please Note: it is your
responsibility to make sure that your
travel documents are in order and that
you have all the necessary visas.
HEALTH
There is no specific vaccination required
to enter Egypt unless arriving within 6
days from a yellow fever transiting or
infected area

As a Middle Eastern, predominately
Muslim nation, Cairo is not the biggest
partying and drinking destination in the
world. There are a variety of clubs,
discos, casinos and bars, but it's not a
huge part of the culture.
RESTAURANTS
Cairo is full of many famous restaurants,
but there isn´t many bistro. Throughout
major cities like Cairo and Alexandria
and even in smaller towns. There are a
splendid amount of choices in big cities
and more limited choices in smaller
towns, but you will always be pleasantly
surprised at the selection and quality
you can find. Most famous and chic
restaurants here offer international
cuisine along with traditional Egyptian
food which is definitely worth giving a
try when in this amazing country.
ACCOMMODATION
Cairo has many chain hotels, resorts and youth hostel,
and well-kept hotels across city. In Cairo,
accommodation comes in various forms.
There are many different types of accommodation in
Cairo , which very in price, location, and level of luxury.
During the low season, it is possible to get good offers
even on luxury hotel rooms. It´s recommended not to go
to budget hotels or campsite as they have bad services .
