1. What is a Super Game Boy (SGB)?
SGB is an adaptor cartridge that allows playing GB/GBC games on a Super
Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) gaming console. The 160x144 pixel
game screen is displayed in the middle of the 256x224 pixel SNES screen
(the unused area is filled by a screen border bitmap). Up to four joypads
can be connected to the SNES, allowing up to four players to play the
same game simultaneously.
SGB should use its own color palette for GBC games. Due to the limitation
of SGB, the colors are more limited as compared to that of GBC. Hence, it
is not possible for SGB to display a border and shows the *normal* GBC
screen?! If you know the truth, please update me.
2. Emulation Stauts
Most are emulated except the following:
- Sound effects
- Attraction mode
- Editable color palettes and borders
- Default borders
- Screen saver
- SNES CPU
- SNES sprites (no games known to employ this feature)
- SNES data transfer
3. Known issues
The arcade mode of Space Invader '94 is not supported.
All sound effects are not supported.
4. Help wanted
If you want to share your cool border image with others, send it to me. I
will consider to include it with the distribution of KiGB.
Most games send data to the SNES address $810 to $8xx at the very beginning.
What are the purposes?
What is the SGB System Command $19 for?
Where can I find the information of the SGB sound effects (which are
pre-defined in the SNES BIOS?)?
